Hi,
Gus from South Africa here. I've just joined after browsing this site for the past few days. I logged in for the first time today and decided I bettter post something now since I don't want to be a lurker
I must say that finding this site was a real eye-opener for me and at least it confirms what I have always known about myself, I am not a tv, just a regular married guy who likes to wear skirts. I have never been brave enough to go out and about in a skirt but I have worn a sarong in a few places.
Can't think of much else to say at the moment but I am really happy I finally found a forum to chat to like minded guys (and not forgetting the open minded gals here too!

)

Hi Gus
I'm a full time skirt wearer in public since 2005 thanks to this site. I was an inside the house sarong and home made skirt wearer since 1982 and an inside sarong only wearer since 1972 when I was in a diving movie filmed in the South Pacific where everyone wore sarongs all the time. There are quite a few of us who are at least part time public skirters and a few besides me that wear them most of the time. I was afraid most of my life that I'd get bullied or killed wearing a skirt in public. I just wish I'd tried it sooner. It wasn't really anything special at all.

Thanks for making me feel so welcome Skip. I feel right at home now!
I've been wearing sarongs since the mid nineties, but mainly at home. When I have ventured out in one it has been generally while on holiday or at the beach. There is an east African sarong called a kikoi which is quite common here in SA, but generally only worn by (a few brave) men at the beach. Right now I am wearing my pink and yellow one that was given to me by my wife.
The thing is I really want to move from sarongs to more "regular" skirts. My biggest problem is to convince my wife that this a perfectly natural thing to do. I think I found the perfect skirt but now I need to break it to her. I want her to be involved from the beginning and even help me choose it - honest and trust in the relationship. The shop that sells this type of skirt is in Durban which is some distance away from Johannesburg where we live.....however

we are going to Durban next week, so we'll just have to see
I will let you know how it goes and maybe even post a pic or two...

Hi Gus, we lived in Kimberley, South Africa for a couple of years and had a great time. I used to wear my Macabi skirt when we visited the game reserves and never had any problems at all.

Hi Gus, and welcome. South Africa is a captivating country, and one that I find myself increasingly visiting. On my last visit in Feb this year, I took my kilt with me, and it went down a storm in a place near Port Elizabeth!
