Great.

Was your wife a convert from Day #1, or did it take her time to come around?

She didn't need to be converted. I was the one who had to be persuaded of the advantages of unbifurcated garments for men, not her. And I wasn't convinced at first - but I was very intrigued!

There are some occasions when she prefers me to wear trousers, though, just to save her having to explain what it's all about.

I lost it!

Most older people have fixed ideas and thoughts and so they don't want to change. Then there are the ones who "just don't care", they really do, but they're willing to do unordinary things.

Most young people do whatever they're told by TV, Newspapers, Magazines, bla bla bla.. I've been wathing several adverts lately, and man that message is strong! A antiperspirant advert that basically told what is "ok" for a woman to do but not a man and has no real bearing on social life. Just a way to say, buy this or society will look down upon you.

Or subliminal messages like, "this guy (wearing "standard" male clothing) who is so successful is doing this and look at how he looks", it's very powerful!

ImageAlot of people's reactions will also be based on how you look in a skirt. My legs are developed and so is my body, (runner/swimmer type build 29 waist) so a denin skirt looks good on me 12 inch mini as ive been told by both sexes mainly over the internet. Havent got the nerve to wear one out in public yet, however I rode my mountain bike around area at 2 am for about 2 hours, so i didnt see anybody. I was wearing a atlhletic t shirt and running shoes with it and bikini white underwear. have a pic on my profile, cant seem to upload here or I can e mail pics.

Hi all,

I've been out and about in Leicester city centre this morning wearing a khaki cotton skirt, calf-length but with splits on both sides up to above the knee-joint, a blissfully comfortable summer skirt, it really lets the breeze in!
I have not received any reaction at all from anyone.
I bought this skirt last year but rarely wore it, dunno why not. With the splits on the sides its's like a knee-length summer skirt with a flap hanging down at front and back; even when the breeze lifts the flaps, modesty is preserved, thankully. Great skirt, trouble is the more I wear it, the quicker it'll wear out! Must try and find another couple, only problem is I can't for the life of me remember where it came from???

There is such a huge variety of leg-wear around this summer, crops, cut-offs, shorts of all shapes, sizes, and colours, cullottes, as well as some great skirts, that it seems not to warrant comment at all. Brilliant! Totally relaxed experience. Attitudes are changing, we are achieving a shift towards blissful indifference.

In fact the folk who stand out as being oddly attired are those strange folk in jeans and trainers! Of both genders! And as for male formal attire in this weather, at the weekend, well why for gawd's sake. For conformity's sake, it has to be, there can't surely be any other reason, can there?

The top half of me was clad on a plain sky-blue t-shirt, and I've just got black fabric sandals, with orange stitching, on my feets.
What a glorious summer this is becoming!

All best wishes,
Ash

I take it you are referring to garmets intended for sale to the female half of the population? I can't see it applying to the male half :(

Hi,
Charlie, no I wasn't really making any gender distinction there. I work at a University Library and we see men and women from all over the world in a huge variety of legwear, of all sizes, lengths, shapes, colours, designs. Little old me in a long denim skirt or my khaki split thing just melts into the crowd.
I'm actually in my workplace now, though not actually working; I don't have net access at home and this is free!
No one cares much about it here, though I'm not sure how senior management would respond during weekday working; I've been doing it for so long now it would probably be a fait accompli sort of thing, and I'm reasonable confident of a fair degree of support among my co-workers. None of them have ever been critical, only supportive, encouraging and positive. Good people these!

I ventured into the library last week towards the end of the day when I was actually on leave, but I was wearing this same khaki skirt and I wanted to gauge the response from colleagues who had no doubt heard of my legwear preferences but had never actually seen me in a skirt. Those who saw me made no comment, perhaps didn't even notice, maybe having heard about me doing so they just accepted it. I was completely relaxed about it, just behaved normally.
When I have to work at the weekend, as I will be doing next Saturday, I always come in skirted; the weekend staff are so used to me they tend to comment if I'm not skirted!

I realise that my situation here isn't necessarily representative of the wider social world for many people, but if I can do a bit to make it a non-issue on-campus and in my workplace, then hopefully that may spread, slowly but inexorably, out to the real world and make life easier for all of us free-thinking folk.

All best wishes,
Ash

I've been in and about Nottingham city centre this morning - not very far from you! I had to wear shorts on this occasion because part of the time I was helping my eldest daughter move into her new flat, so I've been fetching and carrying stuff up and down stairs and out of the loft-space etc.
