Ash, I didn't say I regularly ATE those Burgers, Good GOD if I had I wouldn't be typing now. My father killed himself with a knife and fork eating lots of eggs, bacon and red eye gravy with biscuits for breakfast and even more caloric items for lunch and dinner. He had his first, biggest, only and LAST heart attack in 1967 at the age of 52. I've always spent time in grocery stores looking at the ingredients of anything I ate. My paternal grandfather did the same thing on the same foods, only he did it earlier than my dad, at age 48. Good thing they both had time to kick out a child before they kicked off themselves. My weight problem has to do with the Polio I had as a child. An inbalance of the pituitary gland as I understand it. The doctor said it was a highly sophisticated inbalance of the endocrine system. Now THERE'S a mouthful. That's one of the reasons I'm reticent about lap belt surgery, it may not help as I already don't eat much to begin with. Any bariatric surgery is designed to slow down a persons eating habits.

I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

A rather unpleasant encounter with a nurse occurred today. I went to the Asthma Clinic at my local hospital this morning in a maroon sweater, navy-blue calf-length skirt, maroon socks and brown shoes. A couple of stares in the waiting-room, but I just stared back. No comments. When I got to see the nurse, a woman aged no more than about 25, she said: "Interesting outfit!" I said "Thanks". After completing a lengthy questionnaire, she asked me to blow into a cardboard device as hard as I could and measured my flow. When she read the result, she seemed a little perturbed, so she asked me to wait. A few minutes later, she came back with a prescription for some steroids and told me to come back in a week for a further check. Before I left, she mentioned my attire again: "So what's with the skirt, then?" I said something like, "Can you think of any reason why I shouldn't wear a skirt if I want to?" "It's a free country," she said coldly, "Who am I to say you can't wear what you want" and then she dismissed me with "See you next week".
Her reply may seem innocuous, but I felt a bit sleighted by it. What I was wearing was none of her business and she had no right to make an issue of it. This is the first time I have ever felt uncomfortable in all the times I have been out and about skirted and the person who made me feel that way was a professional who should have known better. I will be wearing a skirt next week and I really hope she is there again. If so, I will be ready for her!

0 degrees F (-19 degrees C) and quite comfortable
On my second day of wearing a kilt, I made my first appearance at work in one. Of course, I've chosen the coldest morning of the winter, so far, to pull this one. Not bad (decided to pre-warm the car before I set out).

Today, I will probably be wearing the black survival UK. I might, though, just wear a couple skirts layered instead. The one depicted in the "Sock Advice Please" thread and a A-line knee-length black skirt that has a ruffled hem underneath it. Turns the pleated skirt into one that has a ruffled hem. Colors are the same, so it looks like one skirt, even though it isn't. Socks are a couple pairs of hosiery knee highs. A navy blue pair with a white pair on top. Goes a bit better with white running shoes.

Stu, not being there, not knowing you, not knowing the nurse .... is there any chance that your somewhat defensive answer prompted her coldness?Stu wrote:A rather unpleasant encounter ... Since you've never had a negative encounter, I really doubt it but I thought it worth asking.
Not sure how I would have answered her question -- and I think that that itself (not having the answers, not wanting the questions) is a big part of why I don't get out in a skirt as much as I'd like to.

Biker - I think the manner in which she raised the subject set things off on the wrong foot. "So what's with the skirt, then?" implies that there is something abnormal about my attire and her tone was distinctly mocking. When I responded with, "Can you think of any reason why I shouldn't wear a skirt if I want to?" (a neutral response) she could have come back with something a little more positive. Instead, her answers "It's a free country," followed by "Who am I to say you can't wear what you want" implied she took a negative view of what I was wearing. I formed the impression that she had decided to take a pot shot at me because she disapproved of my clothing and wanted me to feel uncomfortable. A strange attitude to take when you consider that patient comfort is supposed to be one of the pillars of nursing.
If she didn't like the way I was dressed, she should have just kept her mouth shut.

Perhaps the maroon and brown clashed with the navy blue.
I stopped by in my knee-high denim skirt and blue Comfilons to work Saturday...on my first skirted outing downtown, to Mardi Gras. No negative comments, but downtown got compliments on my cyan cowboy hat from a couple of women...go figure.

These days I'm donning the brighter colors to cope with the dull berlin winter (I cannot understand why people dress themselves in such drab and boring colors during the darker part of the year).
Something like this:

BTW, I just updated my website with lot's of new pics, see gallery page.

Hey Binx, I remember you buying that cyan hat in Fort Langley, British Columbia on 11th August last year. As I recall, you were not to be parted from it throughout that day - touring the Wineries, a Honey Festival and the night-time visit to Grouse Mountain! It was a good day - and that is some hat!!!binx wrote:Perhaps the maroon and brown clashed with the navy blue.I stopped by in my knee-high denim skirt and blue Comfilons to work Saturday...on my first skirted outing downtown, to Mardi Gras. you're probably glad you don't live up here thenSince1982 wrote:It's freezing cold here today, must be all the way down to 45F..brrrr, wearing my black wool ankle length skirt with orange nylon mid calf slip, black turtleneck and boots with wool sox...you got to realize that in the Florida Keys, it's so humid that 45F is like 0 in the UK. The moisture in the air just cuts right through you. Anyway, went down to the closest 7-11 to get a hot cup of chocolate(or cup of hot chocolate) whichever sounds right, this morning at 6 am. Bout froze when I went out the door but had already gotten dressed to go so I did. Shivered all the way home. All 1 block of it. Think I'll stay inside until this cold wave from Canada blows on through on Wednesday. Stay warm all.

I believe you can even get real beer over there now, as in stuff that doesn't need to be chilled to death and served in iced glasses to be drinkable (not that there's anything wrong with that of course!). I've been hearing a lot about many US micro-breweries springing up and getting very inventive as well. Drinking in the States sounds better and better.
There's a nice microbrew-place downtown that hosted a Burn's night for the rest of us blokes that couldn't find one in time, with great Scottish dishes and on-tap ales. The Scottish Arms has a number of Scottish ales on tap as well. Between the two's a pub-crawl for sure! Hey, Ham, great to see you here, remembering the fantastic time we all had, and am still cherishing those memories. That hat really does stands out!

In answer to the original question:
A maroon "everday kilt" (otherwise known as an A-line skirt modified for men's shape and with the required pockets in the right size) along with knee-high socks, shoes and a short-sleeved open-neck shirt. It is summer here so I can get away without anything thick and heavy.
