My favorite was "I bet you can't wait to try that on," which a cashier told me as she folded up a long, crinkle broomstick skirt for me. I should have conversed with her, but instead just smiled.

I noticed that they usually hold up the skirt and then look at me. However, it is generally something nice like, "you have great taste in skirts."
sT1564, Iknow how you feel, try buying knickers in Marks & Spencer. I usually go inwhen its quiet at the beginning or end of the day to avoid embarrasment but I did find one young lady who sort of looked at me when I put them forward(they were black by the way) and when I just said theyre for under my kilt she smiled and said wait a minute, she returned with 2 different pairs and told me they would probably suit the purpose better. I felt really t ease after that.

Still... Ok, you told me some historycal details (Since1982), there you mention that the kilts(some of them) are made by wool, and they keep warm during winter:confused: I suppose there are some knee hights or some any kind of hosiery to wear under! During the winter when i'm wearing a skirt or a dress I wear some hold-up stockings or some cotton tights, that's certain! If not, the next day I'll shurley got a flu! So... I suppose there must be "something"
Are there any female members in here?Just for my curiosity....

The kilts I wear traditional Scottish tartans, are to the top of my knees and because the garment is very pleated it can get blown a bit in the wind and therefore in winter it can be a bit chilly. Kilt hose, special socks are worn to just below the knee height and are made from wool also. The big question people ask of men wearing ilts in Scotland is whats underneath it. Well in really cold weather theres always something under mine. But its a great garment and I enjoy it and Im really delighted you have taken the trouble to be interested in it. If it is possible I will post some pictures to show you what I mean but if you have anything else you want to ask or talk about I am here anytime.
Only thing I will be away for 3 days now but will check when I get back

Love from Scotland and take care

My favorite reply

To the question: "What's worn under your skirt?" My favorite reply to this particular question is..."Nothing, it's all in perfect working condition".. :)

(Implying that nothing is worn out or even somewhat worn down or any use of worn as in used or filed etc.) If on the other hand, they ask me, "what garment are you wearing under your skirt?" I now reply, "same as you, I guess" or "Another MUG" as I believe a slip, when worn by a man is a man's slip and is also a MUG....:wall: :whiteflag

Traditional kilts are wool. They can be quite warm, especially with the heavier weight wool that some are made out of... I own one that's made out of 18 ounce wool. It's VERY warm in the winter. Yet, in the summer, it's cooler than shorts or a pair of jeans. The knee socks worn are also wool and are, as Sterlin6 mentioned, called kilt hose. Thigh-highs or tights are unnecessary with the kilt and actually don't look too good when combined with the traditional kit.

In fact, even when I skirt, I find that a pair of heavy knee-high socks work quite well for those times when it's cold and I'm not in one of my traditional kilts. You may want to try that next winter when you're wearing your skirts and dresses. Might be as comfortable as the cotton tights, but without having anything on the upper legs under the skirt. Usually, during the summer, I'm either wearing a Utilikilt or a lightweight skirt with trouser socks underneath. The nylon of the socks tends to breathe a bit and keep my legs cooler. They also seem to go better with sandals, so I can get away with wearing socks with sandals.

There are a few other female members, namely Siri, Skirt Chaser, and KLL... There have been a few others, but they seem to disappear after a while.
Skirted since 2/2002, kilted 8/2002-8/2011, and dressed since 9/2013...

Beard is soft

REALLY?? I've come to a different conclusion - concerning shaving: the beard expresses our feminine side. If you don't immediately see what I mean, think of Santa Claus ... and how shaving makes people look like cactuses, which might bear some connotations to - well, aggressive masculinity...

Hello Red Red

Thanks for saying you like this forum, I do too as I only joined recently, and its really great to have a female opinion.
You could look at http://www.scottishkilts.net or http://www.scottishclansman.com and you will see the kind of minikilts available for girls. I must say I think girls look really attractive in short kilts and tights and heels or boots and Im sure you would like wearing it.
Ive just bought a mans lightweight kilt in McKenzie tartan to wear during the summer when its quite warm to wear the normal weight kilts.

Look forward to your posts

Handsome

Post by Since1982 »

They are handsome in their kilts...you may run into activity you'd rather not have the first time you call a stocky muscular Scot "cute"....depending on his feelings about that word. Would you also perhaps call him "pretty" or "sweet"? You see, all 3 of those words have mostly the same effect on a masculine man unless they are being used either by his wife/girlfriend/mother and "pretty" only in the context of "It's a pretty day" not "you look pretty in your kilt". I wear skirts because they are more comfortable than trousers, not to attract unwanted attention. I think you'll find a lot of the posters on this site feel much the same. Handsome is a masculine word, cute is not, unless you're talking about a newborn male.

This is my opinion, you can agree or disagree. Opinions are like noses, everyone has one, even Michael Jackson, it's his nose, even though it's plastic, he bought and paid for it. :)

I, for one, do not mind at all being called cute. Regardless of my state of bifurcation, I take it as a great compliment.
