I completely understand those who don't like tights. If you are hairy, they are going to irritate massively! That said, I love them but I won't buy cheap ones. £4 minimum with £8+ being more realistic. They feel and look fabulous while lasting a lot longer than cheaper hosiery. Sheer tights are preferred to opaques but in the current climate it's 40 denier opaques under the suit every day (no socks).

Each to their own though.

No, they don't irritate me at all. They are soft and warm on a cold day.

I have read that hairy legs let your tights slip down, but as I haven't tried shaving my pins, I don't know if this is true or not. Anyway, as I have commented before, a wee bit of sliding down is a good thing.
Keep on skirting,

No irritation at all wearing tights pantyhose or leg warmers.

Hairy legs (pins) can cause tights and pantyhose etc. to lose their grip but not if there is an elastic band
of sufficient strength to keep them in place.
The problem with the slippage on the legs is the strength of the elastic holding the darn things up !
If it is not gripping on the legs obviously the t or ph are going to obey the laws of gravity - fall down !
Not enough tension in the elastic and normal wearing eventually will give way and again fall down.
Get it too tight and it will act like a small tourniquet.
With kilt sox the area just below the knee and above the calf is a smaller place ideal for keeping sox
in position with an elastic band and flashes.
Wearing t or hosiery just above the knee is not so good - that is why with womens wear there are
devices known as garter straps worn as a belt off the waist.
If the t or ph are full length then the waist will (should) keep things in place as the waist is traditionally
smaller than the hips but then again the elastic waist band comes into play.
It has to be tight enough with tension enough to stay in place and not fall down to the ankles.

The design (material) of the tights or pantyhose will pretty much dictate how warm and cozy they are.
Pantyhose is realitively sheer and does not do as good a job as tights which are more dense.
But then there is the trade off of sheer material being able to breath more easily; tights not so much.

Keeping the legs warm is a nice thought but the body's largest blood vessels are in the legs and are
able to keep that area warm far more easily than the head.
Keep the chrome dome warm and everything else is relative - so wear a hat to keep warm.

"Skirt-Kilt-ON"

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

I can see both sides of the coin, so to speak.......

I have to wear thigh high medical hosiery for moderate edema that builds when I am sleeping. I hate the things but they do their job well and I do like that I can see I do have knees and ankles. I shave my legs because the hair was getting irritated by the silicone pulling on it. I use body adhesive to keep them in place at night. In the morning, I can't wait to get them off.

However I had major back surgery at the end of January. One of the side effects is a weird sensation that feels like there is insects or snakes crawling around on my legs. I noticed that the sensation would almost disappear at night when I donned my stockings. The thigh highs are impractical during the day for me, so while I was out at Walmart I picked up a pair of really nice thick tights and tried. It did about the same thing as the medical grade ones at reducing the sensation.

Now at 6 weeks after starting the experiment, I have actually grown fond of wearing tights. The brand I bought wears like iron and fits me rather well with me needing to only occasionally pull them up. With the weather here lately, they do offer some protection to my legs in the high winds as I have to wear shorts to therapy.

So (hopefully) after the sensations die off, I think that I might keep wearing them when the weather is cooler.

I always wear tights under my skirt. They feel good and complete my outfit. The people who don't like them, well they probably have chosen the wrong ones. But feel free to choose to wear Skirts, pants, with or without tights

I think it's nice that there are those who love wearing tights... because the general population should get used to seeing men wearing them. It's another element of incremental change and part of skirt-wearing. But personally, I don't wear them as I tend toward fewer articles of clothing rather than more. I like feeling the air.

If I take a look at pictures of members of the skirtcafe.org I see a lot of guy who combine their skirt wearing with wearing tights. When doing so I have absolutely no irritation whatsoever. It might depend on the quality you wear. Personally, I wear a skirt now and then and combine them with opaque tights and sometimes I go shopping in a village nearby. Never had negative reactions.

I have never worn, and never really felt the need to wear, tights with mine, even in the winter. I find as long as the skirt is long enough, and not made of a very thin material (those made-in-India lunghis probably won't cut it), it'll be warm enough. This is in Alaska, where winter temps can get to -20F. It seems to me that tights defeat the purpose of wearing a skirt, and a slip would be a much better option. Maybe someone who's actually worn tights can shed some light on this one.

Dang, now that's cold!

From a personal perspective, I find that moderately heavy tights offer some level of insulation without the bulk of usual thermal underwear -- not as much, mind, but enough to help out here in New England winters. Slips help, and petticoats are even better because of the bulk and the amount of air that they trap. I find that I am fine in a long heavy skirt, petticoat, slip (mainly as a friction modifier for the tights/petticoat interface), and regular opaque tights; this sort of rig will do me well down to about -5 or -10 F.

I find calf-length skirts with tights good down to about five above zero (F).

There is a simple answer to the "tights/legwear" question.
If they're a part of your "look", wear them, if not, don't.
It's all about being you.

Shorter skirts ( above knee length ) probably look better in spring/autumn/winter with tights. Although I look at it this way - what would I wear with shorts? Hair on the legs is not an issue with me as the hairs are very fair. But I agree with STV, if you are happy with them as part of your look then who's to criticise? :D
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

I hardly wear tights since when it is cold I am inclined to [gasp!] to wear pants, and when it is hot, no one wears tights, However, when it is cold I have been known to wear pantyhose with a sweater dress, and it feels like pajamas with built in boots I used to wear as a toddler.

Speaking as a tights wearing bloke with hairy legs,
I can honestly say I have never experience irritation, Even when wearing tights under trousers.

Like many guys, I borrowed from the women in my life and getting brave I eventually went into a shop and bought some of my own.
When the lady asked me what size I wanted and I said they were for me, She asked me if I was planning to rob a bank?
She burst out laughing when I said I was going to wear them,

That was a long long time back. Since then, tights made for men are available from a few places, and the trick is to get some that FIT.

If you are going to wear something that goes from the tip of your toes to your waist, then there is always going to be a feeling of creep.
You could try footless tights, but that will give you that ankle crimp, which is one of the reasons I dont wear socks !

I try to avoid hitching tights up, as although they sometimes feel they need hitching up, all you are doing is stretching the yarn,
which will then creep back to where it was, and maybe a little more. So resist the temptation.

I think tights as underwear for men is a brilliant concept and it is my only alternative to bare feet and bare legs.
Legwear for men in Liverpool have a good selection and great advice from the man behind the business, as he wears tights himself.

No, I dont get commission.

While I was sitting and reading,
a thought just entered my head,
If I can't wear a skirt while I'm living,
I certainly can't when I'm dead!
