I've come to the conclusion that the way people react tells me more about them than they can guess about me.

I never doubted the avatars were forged. I think everyone looks, well . . . great, dapper, fab, smashing and other assorted superlative adjectives.

Acutally, my wife is quite opposed to my exposure beyond our little street, so I'm being a little circumspect in deference to her wishes while not totally shutting down.

Women

Post by Since1982 »

THat's OK, a lot of women are like that, they can wear anything they please but they need to keep us under their thumbs. We live in a female dominated society. We lucky few that have women that support us without limitations are in the minority, unfortunately. I am one of those. :) Judy not only supports my public skirt wearing but has loaned me her digital camera for my Monday trip to Las Vegas and wants me to get lots of skirted photos with Las Vegas highlights in the background. I Plan to. :)

I personally don't think that showing your face at this site is going to get you in trouble tho. But you have to make your own decisions on that. We'll support whatever you decide. :)

Here it is bigger so it and my face can be seen. I've lost about a 100 pounds since that picture was taken. :)

Female dominated society?

I don't want to get too political and I think that what Skip is saying may be true in some circumstances and situations, but when women still only make (on average) 60% of what men make, when poverty rates among women are far higher than they are among men, with the epidemic of single mothers that plagues this country, when the burden of caring for aging parents inevitably falls on women, when there are only a small handful of CEOs of the Fortune 500 who are women, and when women in the national political arena are still a rarity, I don't know how this society can be described as female dominated.

Are there areas in which there is discrimination against men? Yes. Divorce courts are inclined to favor women, child custody guidelines favor women and women have more fashion choices. In some cases, affirmative action policies provide preferential treatment for women. On balance though, women still get the short end of the economic, political, power and status sticks.

What Skip says certainly mirrors the situation in the UK. Women have had the 'whip hand' here for very many years. They've learnt, long ago, they don't have to be the 'top man' to control their environment. Much of the Law is now so heavily tilted in their favour, that the best way for a bloke to 'fight his corner' is to hire a female legal representative, especially if you're up against a woman (or women). In most office situations, dress code or no, women will (nowadays) wear whatever they choose, knowing that no mere man dare challenge them.

I find that an astonishing conclusion from Tao's deference to his wife on this one issue of exposure. I have the same deal with Quiet Man because his concern of publicity is more important to me than my small pleasure would be from posting photos of us or a name. I do that out of respect and not dominance by him.

Rather than painting fashion freedom board participation as a men kept in check by women situation I'd think it is closer allied with the struggle of any minority or fight against tradition. Oh, and thank you for speaking up alexthebird, everybody has hardships and it all depends on what the area being compared is. Be it literacy rates, participation in armed conflict, domestic abuse, or incarceration statistics there certainly are unfairnesses all around. Ask any single man in a nursing home surrounded by women at a 1 to 10 ratio who has it good. :shifty:

I said a lot of women, I didnt say or infer all of them. Thank the powers that be that there are plenty of women out there like my Judy or Quiet Man's Quiet Mouse or other women that think a man in a skirt or kilt looks just as masculine as a man in a dull boring suit. :)

AlexTheBird, don't forget "spousal abuse" If the police are called, it matters not who has the blood flowing, in 99% of the cases it's always the Man that goes to jail. The cops nearly always, like in 99% of cases assume because the man is bigger, he's always the problem. If you'd ever been nailed in the back of the head by mistake by a 5 foot tall 100 pounds woman with an old iron skillet you'd know being bigger doesn't always mean you're at fault or in control.

Wore my Old Navy soft light-denim above-knee multi-pockets skirt all morning yesterday while mowing. Best find yet at a second-hand store. Went to the quick shop for a bottle of water then the post office. Nary a comment. That skirt's going out some evening...

It was a hot and humid day in Vancouver today. I wore a Nike Soccer shirt and my 4 yard Blackwatch from Bear Kilts.

One of these, with a white Adidas t-shirt and trainers. It is a khaki green parachute skirt with drawstrings at the sides to lift or lower the skirt as you see fit, and is about 39" long...

Hi all,
While I was having a few days off last week it was really hot and humid here. Rumaging through my wardrobe I came across a skirt I bought last year but for some reason had never, or hardly ever, worn.
It's in a light-weight khaki cotton, roughly calf-length but with slits up both sides to the knee-joint. It's blissfully comfortable, especially with a breeze blowing; I wore it on and off all week, going everywhere in it. I was aware of the occasional sidelong long but there were no adverse comments at all that I heard. Given the weather, I suspect most men looked at me with some measure of envy!!

All best wishes,
Ash

I wore my 4 yard Bear Kilt again. This time, I wore it with a tan colour button up shirt with a black sporran with a pair of Doc Marten 8 holes boot. One guy came up and asked me whether I am in military or not.

The past couple days, I've been working at the Bellevue, Washington branch of ICOM America, doing firmware upgrades to communications transceivers. Been wearing jeans on the job, but changing into something unbifurcated before I went home (actually slipping the jeans off and wearing a lightweight skirt that was light enough that it actually fit underneath my jeans). Talked it over with my supervisor and he said that there wouldn't be a problem if I wore a kilt to work. So, tomorrow, it's going to be a bit rainy. I'll be walking in the door, decked out in my Armstrong tartan kilt, with bottle green piper's hose and red flashes, etc... I expect some women to be trying to get a peek all day tomorrow.

Hi,

I'm usually a kilt wearer but today I wore an above the knee denim skirt, tank top, floppy hat and sandals while doing yard work in 90 degree temperatures and equally high humidity. I have also worn this skirt while on errands and have to agree with the opinion that denim skirts are 'invisible'.
