Really, what would stop them??? Do kilts explode if women try to wear them? That's like saying a fire ant can't bite you if you stepped on its nest. Why not, what would stop them?

I'm sorry Richard, nothing personal here but saying ANYONE doesn't have the right to wear any garment they please smacks mightily of "Fashion Policing".

ANYONE CAN WEAR ANYTHING THEY LIKE, in my opinion. It might not be fashionable in one person's view but taking that next step and saying what who "can't" wear what is just a waste of typing space or wanting to be the center of attention in a new (we dont need it) flame war.

This is my opinion as I really hate flame wars. :shake:

Well, I hear what you say, Skip! Here in the UK, it is regarded as a privilege for a woman to be allowed to wear a Kilt to perform in a band, participate in highland dancing or similar. A Kilt is possibly the last bastion of menswear still intact in the UK. To date, I've never seen a lady abuse that privilege. And this in a country where men are regarded by (most of) society as secondary to the female, at home, at work (excepting in American/Canadian companies) and in the eyes of the law. Perhaps that's why the ladies go 'gaga' when they spot a chap in a Kilt - they are a wee tad jealous, I reckon!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about women being jealous. Since I find a sporran annoying and use a shoulder bag instead, I think the great flat redundant slab of material at the front is kind of ugly and frankly I would rather just have it pleated all round if that passed the Wife Test (it does not). Wool is also itchy and heavy and I feel kilts should be fully lined by default, since there is no merit in discomfort. Tartan also has limited appeal as a design and I would prefer to have a few more choices, such as vertical stripes, to supplement the few modern designs available.

I'm not wild about sporrans, either! Especially those with tassles! The drumming drives one crazy! I think it was Hamish who suggested 'Blutak'! I wish they had compartments, too!

Well, you could buy a 'purposely designed' 'Kiltslip' or whatever they're called? Lining something that heavily pleated would add a small fortune to the price. Alternatively, pick up a cheap, a-line, plain 'slip' from 'the other side' - works just as well at a fraction of the price!

Blimey! There are hordes of different 'trad' variations, which must suit somebody. There are good choices in plain and I'm certain Hamish has one just like you describe. The only factor is the price......

Hamish's Kilts

Post by Since1982 »

Hamish has an all black leather kilt that IF it fit me would be my first try at wearing a kilt. I think it's in his video. A very nice piece of work there. :)

O well, another 90 or so pounds to go and maybe it will. I'm down 90 now since February. :):):):):cheer:
