Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
As one of the many people who regularly contribute to the ubiquity of denim I'll take credit for some of the magical properities of invisibility. Just think, if girls weren't wearing jeans so often the denim skirts might not pass unnoticed as frequently.

I looked at him, hesistated, and said......ummmm....THIS is a skirt, converted from denim shorts...He took a much longer look and said...I'll be, it just looked like dungaree shorts like you used to wear all the time. I retorted with, it IS a pair of dungaree shorts, I just removed the crotch and sewed the inseams together.
Skip, this is great. I'm wondering if you are the first man here to have to work *to* be recognized as wearing a skirt.
I have converted about 6 pairs of dungaree shorts into denim skirts. When I wore them as shorts I never thought of them as being actually "short" other than not as long as dungaree pants. They reached my mid to lower knee and no one ever looked at them in any way other than normal dungaree shorts. SINCE I've converted them to skirts, by removing the crotch and sewing the inseams together they have become about 4 inches shorter and NOW I think I'm wearing some kind of fat guy's mini skirt. LOL It's true that they aren't mini skirts, it's just that I am used to wearing either skirts or shorts that are at least knee length or longer and after the conversion the garment is now about 3 inches above my knees and FEELS VERY SHORT to me. I feel I have to remember to wear underpants so when I sit, no one can see my private area. No one can anyway, as I've been tucking for 55 years and nothing is seeable anyway, but I still imagine it is.

One of the most significant lessons I have picked up from browsing this forum is that denim skirts are invisible, seemingly as they get misinterpreted as short pants when glanced casually.
I am quite influenced by this idea -- looking to try it out myself. Are there many photos around showing members, or other guys, in denim skirts? I've spied a few small thumbnails, but little else.
It seems odd that if they are as acceptable as a kilt that so few photos exist of guys in denim skirts compared to kilt photos?

Good point. I don't think I own a photograph of myself in a denim skirt, yet I wear them all the time! Mind you, I only normally have my photo taken when on holiday - and then it's on a normal film camera - and I don't store pics on my computer.
I don't actually wear my denim skirts very often because they are all rather shorter than I like, and the most important thing for me about them is that denim shorts are rough on the inside and denim skirts are no different, also rough on the inside. I have no/can't get any slips short enough to wear between the rough interior and my skin so I mostly wear twill or khaki or batik or cotton skirts which are also longer and do have slips that fit if needed and also are smooth and comfortable against my skin. :shake:

Note to Jet Ranger. If you check out photo 102 page 11 you will see that my jean skirt is hardly going to go unnoticed. Even without the hose it would be noticed. Yup cause its a mini. lol And to skirt chaser I would be happy as a lark with the thinking part and of course honored to be 2nd stand by.

A mild warning to all. I re-sort the MUGshots in the Gallery every now and again so referring to a MUGshot by number/page is a bad practice. It would be better to refer to the actual URL to your MUGshot. For instance Jim, you should have said: "Check out my photo at the Gallery"

Something looks rather odd in the way that the forum software linked those -- usually the "attached thumbnail" and image areas are active links; in this case they were not. Maybe the posted images were just tiny? (Noodles?)

Short denim minis are not as invisible as I once thought. I just got back from the mall, and at least 7 women said "cute skirt, where did you get it?".
At least the reaction was positive, though I am not sure how many poeple were snickering in the background.
