skirts/kilts for men great idea
Re: skirts/kilts for men great idea
See that's what I mean. Skirts for men won't catch on around here precisly for that reason. It could cost you your marriage that goes way beyond funny looks and snickers.
Re: skirts/kilts for men great idea
Boils down to what you feel is most important -- skirt wearing, or your marriage. Now, if there is openess and communication in the marriage, then it's worthy of *gentle* discussion. If she appreciates you as much as you appreciate her, then it might work out. Just never be confrontational.See that's what I mean. Skirts for men won't catch on around here precisly for that reason. Approach it from a fun perspective too -- comically indicate that if she wears the 'pants', then you'd like to wear the skirt...
My current SO and I have joked about this periodically. We've even seriously talked about either finding or making matching skirts for the both of us as well as her older daughter. The entire family decked out in matching skirts. Of course, the context of such an endevour would not be at a family gathering, or other venue requiring more conventional dress. I'd never embarrass her, and she'd never embarrass me.

One thing I have noticed about women is that most of them are turned on by men in kilts. Like for instance late night talk shows whenever they interview a male celebrity and they bring up kilts or show a picture of this guy in a kilt they all go wild but when it comes to their boyfriends or husbands wearing one then it's another story.Boils down to what you feel is most important -- skirt wearing, or your marriage. I'm going to take a guess as to why that is. You know how sexy women wearing a short mini-skirt with thong underwear and spikeheels and lots of makup are but you would not want your wife to go out in public dressed like that. Mainly because you don't want other guys learing at her or even coming on to her right? My theory is that is the same way with women. They wouldn't want other women learing at their men. Well that is my guess correct me if I'm wrong.
Another thing could be that the public believes that men in kilts/skirts would always be trying to expose themselves or they are afraid of letting a man in a kilt around children especially if they think he isn't wearing any underwear.
Those last two are real fears you are going to have to address if you want this thing to catch on.
Re: skirts/kilts for men great idea
Your points are well taken, Tom. But I think you set some people off when you said kilts/skirts will NEVER catch on in Dayton. I think if they "catch on" they will catch on in Dayton just as easy as anywhere else.
But, yes, if they catch on, they will catch on because it is done with a certain level of class. Just like your women in a mini-skirt, thong panties, and high heels would attract a lot of attention it would be out of place at the mall, High School or Elementary School campus, so would a man in a short skirt/kilt with out any underwear. If it (MIS/MIK) is to catch on as everyday wear, it will have to be as an acceptable fashion statement, not as a advertisement for sex. Even though elegance and beauty can be and is sexy.
Heres hoping you get to a point when you are comfortable skirted, even in Dayton. R

I've never seen a man in a kilt or skirt around here and don't think I ever will. Hey I'm all for it but I have to be realistic. the Dress code for men around here is very rigid PANTS ONLY sorry to say.Your points are well taken, Tom. Your comment reminded me growing up in my hometown. Small mining/one horse town. If you wore anything but button fly Levi's, it had better be the same, cut-off w/frayed edges, else you were considered a fag/sissy. I remember even after getting out of the service I was riding my bike in what would now be considered gym or sport shorts and getting whistled at (the intent was derogatory). The times they have-a-changed and they will again.I've never seen a man in a kilt or skirt around here and don't think I ever will. Try something different on your next vacation, no one will know you, and, besides, tourist are always dressed in the extreme. Happy skirting. R n' R
Re: skirts/kilts for men great idea
I've got proof that skirts and kilts will never happen around here. I was driving through Yellow Springs, Ohio which is a hotbed of tolarance I didn't see any guys in skirts or kilts. Believe me there are all sorts of characters there mostly because of Antioch College but no men in kilts or skirts.Your comment reminded me growing up in my hometown. Small mining/one horse town. I could say the same about Brighton UK, but I wear a skirt, so therefore, there are people who wear skirts in Brighton!I've got proof that skirts and kilts will never happen around here. Never say never. Never is for a very long time. RE: You have a HAM Radio convetion coming up in Dayton. A fellow skirter is planning on attending skirted, see previous thread on the Atrium.I've got proof that skirts and kilts will never happen around here. Re: skirts/kilts for men great idea
I have noticed that skirts on women do seem to be making a comeback this year. Which probably means acceptance of skirts on men is becoming more remote than ever before.Never say never. Re: skirts/kilts for men great idea
OH, contrare (?sp). if they are to make a come back, it will be a come back for everyone, not just women. Once they're fully accepted and understood, they will be more acceptable for men. Re: skirts/kilts for men great idea
Right, "you only say never because no one ever has." Now, it only takes you to go out and wear a skirt around Dayton or Yellow Springs even if you have to sneak in skirt wearing. I get no acceptance on the home front, but have worn skirts quite a bit here in Mt Pleasant, Michigan and surrounding small towns.Never say never. Never is for a very long time. Ha! and double ha!
OK...I lurk here occasionally. I *finally* registered here...just so I could post a reply to this one. The place you are in is only as conservative as you let it be. I'm in the *Army* (US). We still have a "straights-only" mindset. a guy with long hair or earrings - automatically an outsider. The military (again, US. I can't speak for the experience in other countries) is, in my opinion, likely the biggest collection of blatant homophobes there is (note that I'm not commenting on the policirs, just the behavior of individuals), disregarding uber-conservative groups, ecpecially when we are in a country where the virtually the only other Americans we see are each other.
Do I let that stop me from wearing my Utilikilts, on and off base, in South Korea??
HELL NO!
Jesus, I don't even own any pants other that my uniforms. I've been called to task about my attire by peopke who outrank my boss's bosses (and valiantly argued - and won - my right to wear my Utili's).
I've even started a trend. Several of the guys in my unit have purchases kilts since I've come to my unit.
So **** 'em! Wear what you please. Damn the man. Save the empire!

Yeah, I wore a denim mini to the mall that was frayed and hardly anyone even noticed (See denim IS invisible post). Most people probably thought it was shorts. People really don't care, unless you're really decked-out crossdressing. Just try it at a remote mall or big grocery store sometime. You will be amazed...and it will boost your confidence. Or are you even interested in wearing them? What makes you think you have to be a "character at college" to enjoy men's fashion freedom? Matter of fact, just do it at that college, wearing a skirt, and be the first!tom-n-dayton wrote:I've got proof that skirts and kilts will never happen around here.
