Re: Skirts with splits
I have 2 skirts with slits. Both are side splits and both are calf length. I like them and wear them in my usual rotation of skirts. The height of the slit on one is at the knee and the slit on the other is about 2 to 3 inches above the knee. Both are very comfortable skirts.

It can be very difficult to be demure / decent in a skirt with a front spilt which is why they are usually worn with th split at the sides
Sitting can be particularly difficult - I would practice in front of a mirror.
When choosing skirts / dresses make sure you try :
bending over ( you will forget to be careful )
reaching your arms up high
Experiment and enjoy, you will not get it right every time
Take something outwith your comfort zone into the changing rooms - it might surprise you or at least you will know it's not 'you'
Remember - you are at the 'teenage girl' stage of finding your style and I, for one, am very thankful that my teenage years happened before everyone carried a camera.

Re: Skirts with splits
Some of mine have short rear splits which enable freedom of movement on straighter skirts.
My first skirt had a front split but I felt vulnerable when sitting so I sewed it up and tend to avoid them nowadays.
I have yet to try anything with side splits.

Re: Skirts with splits
I have several providing greater leg freedom in some; appearance in others. Most are either left side or rear; I find front slits awkward and tend not to wear one of them and gave the other away.
My minor irritation is that I'll grab a half slip based on the skirt length, then half dressed (or later) remember the slit and discover the old "your slip is showing" -- so back for a swap.

I think you should just enjoy the fact that you have nice legs and get over the fact. If you just relax into the fact that your legs are OK, you will then enjoy wearing mini skirts next summer. The skirt with splits in it, is just training for next summer.DrFishnets wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 7:18 pm Don’t get me wrong but I do like the look of splits in skirts it’s just that I feel a bit self conscious with a lot of my leg showing through the split when I’m wearing fishnet tights or sheer black tights/pantyhose when walking even though I’ve been told I have nice legs. I don’t mind the splits when I’m wearing thick black tights or leggings.
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

Re: Skirts with splits
I have a denim skirt with a front split which I dislike, so I always wear the skirt backwards, and it seems to work.

I'm quite a fan of pencil skirts and all of them have a slit at the centre rear. I like the way they hug you on a cold day and are no problem in breezy weathervictor1964 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 6:50 pm I seem to be the only one who likes splits, I like more fitted skirts so splits help when moving around. I also like the look of them. I have quite a number with a split. Each to their own...![]()

"Splits" is a better, less violent, word than "slashes."
I like them better on the sides, at the bottom of each side-seam. This gives me symmetry. I have one denim skirt like that.
Instead of a 6-inch back-split, you cab have two 3-inch side splits. Same function. I call them "trim-tabs."
I have some knee-length skirts with back splits. I can live with that, but would prefer them not to be there.
I have considered getting them sewn up, but have not done yet done so.
Front splits are totally unacceptable.

Re: Skirts with splits
As everyone can see in the picture below, I have zero problem wear dresses with a side slit, and, in this case, slits on BOTH sides! I found that to have been most daring and I enjoyed wearing this dress just the other day! Maybe it's just me, but, it's no big deal really.

I don't let that bother me too much; just make sure it's not showing below the hem. This is an old picture of me wearing a 24 inch denim pencil skirt with a back slit from the now defunct British Home Stores.

Re: Skirts with splits
I've only had one skirt with a split. I wore it once and got rid of it. I do have several wrap skirts that sometimes open to reveal a leg. They are all calf length or longer. I like them all but have a hard time finding foot wear that I think goes well with them on me.

Re: Skirts with splits
There are points raised in this video concerning the optical illusions of skirts with front slits, so possibly of interest:
