moonshadow wrote: Mon Apr 03, 2023 2:15 am It doesn't look good, and as much as I hate to admit it, (and I hope I don't draw the CIA or FBI to this site for writing this), but what America needs right now is a good swift kick in the ass... and I mean a WWIII kind of kick in the ass. Frankly, we need to have a few major cities wiped off the map, our country needs to be destroyed so it can rebuild.... it's the only way to restore our humanity. Until such time, we're going to continue to feed off each other's greed.

And for the FBI: No... this is bigger than what I can pull off... I'm not talking about a shooting, or a pipe bomb blowing up a large building... I'm talking about something major like Russia and China joining forces and peppering the U.S. with nukes. It will suck... but it will bring us together (those who survive anyway).
Well, yeah, I find these kinds of comments uncomfortable. In the US, which hasn't had a real war on it's soil for over a century (Hawaii was a finger-prick) this many be amusing, but for some of us this is no joke. The skyline of Rotterdam is a giant monument to the WW2. IMO you don't joke about flattening cities. With what's going on in Ukraine right now, it's even less amusing.

And also these comments always seem to come from people living in countries that have never experienced it. Even the UK, which seems to have painted the Blitz as something heroic, despite it killing 40,000 people. We should be trying to prevent this, where possible.

I appreciate the comment rode, but I'm just not sure I can completely agree.

We have no value for other people's lives in the U.S. and it shows with virtually every single action we take. I get so tired of the lies. I get so sick of people pretending like they care... their mouths say one thing, but their actions paint a different picture.

There has not been a generation that has truly felt the pains of loss since the Civil War.

I don't want it to happen, but we lead the world in some of the worst metrics. Our politics would be a joke if not for how corrupt they are, our religions are just a mechanism for tax-dodging hate.

Our medical system lays so many people to waste, homelessness is out of control, drugs, violence, shootings, bigotry, anger, greed, meanness.

Life is a gift, Americans take it for granted. We have so much more than we deserve.

I'm going to stop here before I can placed on some government watch list.

I'm not going to do anything. This populace is just so depressing sometimes.

As for me... I hope the first bomb drops wherever I'm at because I don't want to be here anymore. I shouldn't be talking like this... I'm probably just a few steps away from being reported to the authorities and that's the last thing I need.

So let me just say, this is NOT a manifesto, I am NOT planning anything, I'm just tired... that's all. I'm not going to kill myself, but if death should find me by some cancer, or some other means, I have no plans to fight it. I live in a plastic world, fake and artificial where nothing had any depth. There's no meaning here, just people that backbite one another for money and greed.

All we do is kill each other, if not by a bullet then by some other means.

There is no love here... only hate.

I'm not joking, nor do I think this is a laughing matter, quite the contrary, this is a source of deep depression for millions.

I assume you're from the U.K., thus other Brits really can't grasp what it's like to live in the wealthiest nation in the world, where millions pay lipservice to "God" but will cut you off at the knees and leave you to rot in an instant.

Many don't know what it's like to live in a true oligarchy where there is no compassion and the entire population is completely brainwashed.

Your government and the country it represents cares about you... ours doesn't. And that's where it ends.

Thanks Fred!

I don't know how I worked myself into such a funk today. Can't think of anything that set me off.

Guess I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

Moon I think like this quite often myself. Sometimes the tension in this country feels so tight that I feel it will implode any moment. All our politicians do is sling mud and degrade each other which serves to divide us all. Tongue cheek is how they operate and nothing changes no matter which party is in office. They have divided us by race, beliefs etc. They only see gender issues as a way to either spread hate or garner new votes. That is all. I wonder what a fly on the wall would hear from both sides behind closed doors?!

All we can do is make our little slice of the world a better place. I don't socialize much. Thus this cafe and members mean a lot to me. That includes you my friend!

No, NL actually, hence the choice of Rotterdam. On a good day I can see it from my window. An acquaintance from Germany once visited Rotterdam marvelling the new buildings and mentioned that a skyline like that is so rare in the Netherlands. At which which point someone cleared their throat and she went bright red realising what she'd said.

Don't get me wrong, it's come back from the ashes greatly, but you can't forget what it took to get there.

Well, you got me there. The US has many many problems and I'm glad I'm far away from it. But please, find another way.

All I can do is vote.

But there's never anybody worth voting for.

Sometimes I hope it will hold off, other times I wonder what it would be like to be around and witness the end of the U.S.

My luck it will happen right when I try to retire....

Nothing like being a feeble 80 year old man in a war torn country trying to survive...

Good luck getting a hover-round under those circumstances!

I'm already feeling a little better... I'm guessing the local theocrats in Appalachia must be holding an election. All I've seem for the last few months are road signs of different local politicians trying to out Christian each other... a competition over how much "sin" each one intends to ban if installed on the local throne.

Ah, 'Murica. Where you can drink liquor, have love affairs (only with people of the opposite sex), and hate your neighbors.... just don't forget to say your prayers and be at church on Sunday morning....

Anyway, I'm in Louisville this week, away from all that noise.

Indeed, like Boston and New York City. Sadly, Dallas and several others are well above current sea level and may well stay so until in to 2200 -- if that year ever arrives with humans still existing on the planet.

Imagine what people are going to think of our politics a few hundred years from now....

We're living in the dark ages, we just don't know it yet...

This is the biggest difference between the present (2023) and the "Dark Ages" (1400-1700) -- many of us (admittedly a diminishing number -- by design) are still literate and can write cogently (chatbots excepted). However, those thoughts and writings will be lost once the power grid quits and the lights go out around the globe, simply because it wasn't written on anything durable. All we have now is largely "bits".

There was enough time, technically speaking, for dinosaurs (one of the more successful families) to have achieved technological status -- yet there is no proof whatsoever of it. Humans, on the other hand in their very brief reign, have deposited a layer in the Earth's strata that exposes the beginnings of the atomic age where we were busy exploding the things above ground because the powers that were didn't know any better. And, in another few million years, aside from the environmental and radioactive traces of "us", there will be nothing left for future historians to even realise that we were here.

Nature wins. One hundred percent of the time.
