Well Carl, I like your style, especially how you incorporate a vest with dress shirt into skirts. This is a look I have visualized on myself, and I feel would work on many "formal" occasions such as Thanksgiving dinners. I will be referencing the trend often as I put some looks together for myself... I assume you don't mind.

I'm glad to finally see the "Carl" thread. Going through some of the pictures, I especially like this one: http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/viewtop ... 65#p115630. I would like to put something like this together before spring, as I think it would make an appropriate outfit for such a time of year. Very pleasing colors!

In fact, on my next trip to Misty Mountain Designs, I may show them the photo and tell them I'd like to put this together... maybe they can help me out a bit... at least with the skirt anyway.

Jennifer: FYI: I want to stop by here on our future planned cross country drive... http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/viewtop ... 50#p113449 Mark your Calendar. Carl's comment on the area has sold me on the idea, and I do love stars. Perhaps we can do a similar pose with a modern Nikon. I may however be a little older than Carl was when that was taken.

I'll be happy if I can hold my tongue long nough to get through the day. They cant help but try and goad me with their ignorant political brainwashed bigotry. At least my gay nephew and his husband (is that the correct term?) will be there...

My father in law would fit right in on the politician bigotry the man watches Fox news and that's all he talks about when he calls Moon. It gets so annoying having to hear about it. To bad you have to wear trousers. Hopefully it won't last too long and you can go back home to where you can wear what you want comfortably.
Thank you, Jenn. We are adults here. We make our own choices based on various factors. Some here have said "My wife won't let me wear skirts in public." That transference of blame has always annoyed me. What they really mean to say is "I made the choice not to confront my wife's objections to my clothing preference." That may have been a decision made out of love, or out of fear, or from simply substituting wife for mother (as The Who used to sing "Substitute you for my Mom / At least I'll get my washing done").

For me the question goes beyond "How comfortable am I in presenting my style at this gathering?" to rather "Is my preferred clothing important enough to me, symbolically or stylistically, to make others for whom I care uncomfortable?" Generally, that answer would be "Yes", but not in this particular instance. I, and my immediate family, are the guests. I may choose differently when the family is on my turf, but the Southerner in me avoids unnecessary rudeness and unpleasantness, no matter how painful... I guess it's a small sacrifice in the great scheme of things. I show that courtesy to my wife at appropriate times; the rest of the time I dress as it pleases me.

I made the same choice for my kids when they were young, not to embarrass them in front of friends, though once my daughter had begun college I more or less stopped that concern around her friends; they were old enough to face the fact that people are not all alike. My son has been far more accepting of my choices, and treats me with dignity and respect, perhaps more than I deserve (though my technological skills deficit is an persistent annoyance to him). He doesn't criticize or complain about my choices. As Mark Twain wrote: "It is a wise child that knows its own father, and an unusual one that unreservedly approves of him." And "When I was fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have him around. When I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years."

Hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving!

Being on the east side of the "Pond", we don't celebrate Thansgiving - but to answer the question of clothing for Thursday, I will likely just have on a pair of tights and a T-shirt! :D 8) (No-one else will be there except MOH)

Hope you all have a great day over there!

I feel ya. I hate when Moon is on call as he's on call this week. I wish he had a job where he wasn't on call. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! Stay warm.
Thanks, JennC03. I've been in the on-call rotation for 33 years and it does get tedious. I imagine it won't end until I retire. Happy Thanksgiving to y'all.

Carl, I love the idea of you coming across as a slightly confused time traveller and think that is a very apt description. Maybe you should be the next Doctor Who? You wouldn't need a wardrobe department!

Carl, Going along the confused time traveller line brings me to the observation that dress-wise you would make a good Dr Who. Each one has had their own rather eclectic style with ruffles, long scarves and so on. In fact the mare recent ones have been comparatively conservative. It would be nice to see a Dr Who in a dress, robe or a skirt. :D

Hi Jenn,
We seem to have drifted a little, please excuse me while add a little to the Dr. Who "line".
There is a wee rumour floating around that the next incarnation may very well wear a dress or a skirt, the good Doctor could be a lady! How shocking can life get?
Now back on track, as ST. rightly stated we don't do Thanksgiving over here but I made another addition to my Christmas outfit today. When it's complete, pictures will be posted, any comments most welcome.
Can I ask, what would be considered a suitable "Thanksgiving outfit"?
Steve.

Pretty much whatever you'd wear around family any other time.

Some families probably do dress up a bit for the occasion, and in the past that might have involved suit-and-tie. But these days almost nothing's suit-and-tie.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Since who are involved are just my wife, my dog, and I, I´ll wear a house dress as I usually do around the house.

This year my wife wants to skip Thanksgiving. After her surgery to remove a brain tumor and the upcoming chemo she's just not in the mood. We have 3 grown children with families of their own and we always have a big gathering. Not this year.
I, however, will not let the day pass without some kind of holiday meal. I'm preparing a turkey breast and the usual sides along with the pumpkin pie and whipped cream. Just enough for the two of us.
What will I be wearing? I'm thinking a knee length denim skirt with black tights.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

I hope this is a wonderful day for each one regardless of whether you observe this holiday where you are or not.

I cheated and waited until I got dressed and had time to post to tell what I'm wearing today. The outfit is built around my American Heritage Tartan kilt from USA Kilts which has a dark navy background and I believe red, white, and gold stripes making the pattern of the tartan. I've paired that with abutton down collor mens light blue shirt, lovat blue kilt hose and a grey tweed vest left open. My shoes are a pair of 2 inch cuban heeled shoes in black and a black casual kilt belt with a round buckle with a celtic knot motif featuring the Triquetra knot.. For my watch I have a silver pocket watch and chain which I'm carrying in a black belt pouch made for such a purpose.

I'm glad we're not going out today because the kilt is a 5 yarder made from 13 oounce wool tartan and I think would be a bit chilly today.

Again Happy Thanksgiving!
