Thanks for the link Jan
I looked under Fashion and found Marcel's name as a 2nd year student.
I hope that our input helps him create a workable/wearable men's skirt.
The "pic" of the young man at the beginning of this post I think is Marcel.
He really "Rocks" the outfit,

but I would like to see it without the sweater.
Maybe a sportcoat and dress shirt

The skirt he's wearing looks great

I have to disappoint you, Al. The picture you are referring to is from a fashion designer's portfolio and was published a while ago.
A month ago this guy Marcel appeared on our Dutch forum with the same inquiry and the same picture. Although 5 members responded we haven't heard from him since.

Surely this is a good point for mrclkrpfl to give us some more details of his investigations. I think that we are becoming a little suspicious of this and it is time for him to persuade us that his intentions are honourable. It's easy to take advantage of basically honest and open individuals. So come on marcel and talk to us!!!!

Sinned,
Here is a link to convince you and others there's no doubt about Marcel truly being a fashion student.

This project catwalk shows the skills of young fashion designers. Marcel is among them, albeit with a limited contribution...

In the meantime I sent Marcel a private message, just for curiosity.
I know curiosity killed the cat but I am not a cat...

One gets the impression that they are not designing for actual male customers. As though men a just unusually proportioned women.

Well, if you look, they're not exactly designing everyday wear for women, either. And in fact, the whole collection strikes me as rather experimental, with some experiments working out and some not. And that's not a defect or criticism, but rather the process of education.
And actually, this one
http://www.gerritrietveldacademie.nl/u/ ... J_1037.JPG has possibilities, although for me I'd certainly change the colors. Olive and khaki, perhaps, or light blue and navy, or camo and black...

Bare in mind these are the ideas of youngsters, they design apparel for youngsters!
Lots of bright colours, I actually like it.
Picture yourselves as slender young men in Miami in the summer wearing this:

but not young

Thank you jnrck,
Some interesting pieces in there and some that I could even see me wearing, in part if not in the whole. There was one piece by Jurjen van Houte that made me burst out laughing - the vertically striped dress with the unusual bulge in the middle. Sorry, couldn't help it. But yes, as experimental designs there were possibilities that could be developed. Some no-nos as well. But I take your point and as a student he may not have bags of time inbetween the socialising and so on LOL. I still think that he could take time to respond even a little. I haven't added my responses to his questions because my answers are so similar to those given about comfort and so on.

Good point about experimentation. I suppose that you have to try different things till you learn what works.

That's what more than a few of us here are doing as we try to refine our own senses of style and whatever the image is that we wish to project.
The problem with experimentation, though, is sometimes it goes horribly wrong. Personally, I draw the line at whether I recognise the bloke staring back at me from the mirror -- or better, in a photograph. I have definitely put things together by way of experimentation that I would
never wear "on the street", and so the results of those experiments have been abandoned. However, I'm getting better at putting workable looks together, especially with colour -- I got a, "Wow! That looks good!" from The Wife the other day for a rig I put together with a base of purple and black, and which I wore to work (purple and shades of grey diagonal-plaid mid-calf-length skirt, roughly matching purple opaque tights, black waistcoat, and a purple dress shirt).
Note that the colour-pallette above is quite different from what lots of guys here will say is "masculine". I call foul on that because unless the look is badly over the top the guy himself will pull it through if he's confident enough.

Thank you all guys!
I'm a bit busy, so it took some time to respond.
Yeah, i'm not only researching, i'm also making skirts for my upcoming colection and
i tried a few dresses aswell.
It is very nice and helpfull to read about your reasons and experiences.
I must say it is hard to find nice skirts without paying 300 euros...
and i dont "just" wear a female skirt, because men have a different body.
and jan, in case you have time on the 14th of july, you should come and
see our fashionshow, it will be this year in Paradiso.
Cheers
And thanks a lot guys!
Marcel

The "pants-skirts" look, I find to be over-rated; it's like whoever wears such a rig couldn't make up their mind what they wanted to wear that morning. I'd say go all-out with outright skirts in addition to trousered looks -- just don't confuse them.
And besides that i wanted ofcourse to find a bit more out about the reasons of wearing skirts.
Put one on some time and contemplate your sensations and feelings about the garment. That's usually enough to convince one that they are superior garments for guys.
Best of luck with your studies!
