Sorry to see some offended by the thought of personal defence, I'd rather talk about tabasco sauce and garlic on popcorn anyway.

Yes, but guns like smallbore rifles & shotguns are held under licence by some farmers & shooting club members. Small game and clay pigeon shooting are popular sports here.

The drugs gangs get hold of unlicenced weapons of course and use them on each other with distressing frequency, but ordinary citizens like 'Mick Murphy' in the street don't see any weapons from one end of the year to the next. The police are unarmed, except those on special assignments.

Wow, I'm of the opinion that an armed society is a polite society, since the bad guys will always have guns, and if not they will have knives, Baseball bats, etc. And no sence bringing any of that to a gun fight.

Curiously enough our police force here was modelled on that of Great Britain, whose police are unarmed, of course.

Sure, the bad guys will always arm themselves, but arming Joe Public for an encounter with them would only escalate things. It's also an offence to carry a knife of the potentially offensive kind.

Service personnel only wear kilts as uniform for marching pipe bands. So far as I know the Police don't have a pipe band, but the Military do. Their kilts are plain orange.....boring!

On a nicer subject I sailed our 'Day Boat' 7 miles across Ballinskelligs Bay to a slip on the far side. Pic. taken by my crew & sent me as a print afterwards, hence the so-so quality. Boat is 50 years old and has lots of original fittings still. It's an Uffa Fox design in cold-molded ply & built by Fairey Marine on the Isle of Wight.

Hey Tom,
She looks like a sweet day sailer, I'll have to get a pic of my little Nalu this week and post for You to all to see, My "crew" will be my wifes female cousin who also has a Harley, (wish I hadthe Ball to to ride mine in a skirt) also likes women, and doesn't mind my "altrinate fashion sence", its nice to have a buddy. Wife can't deal with kilts/Skirts, gets sea sick on the bay, so I am looking forward to getting out on the water.

I've just had a look at the logs and nothing shows up as having been deleted by either of the other moderators. I would have been surprised if it had, as we tend to discuss moderation decisions before taking action and to share the results of our deliberations on the forum on those rare occasions where it is necessary.

I don't think I have welcomed you to the forum yet; apologies for my tardiness, you are most assuredly welcome in our little corner of cyberspace.

Have fun,

Ian.

PS: In case you are not yet aware, we have three active moderators here:

CRFriend (our Master Barista), UncleAl and the newby on the team, me.

Hi Scott,
We have been dividing posts between here and 'introductions', and nothing I wrote has been deleted, as Ian Milfmog says.

I've been looking you up on Google Maps and East of Oahu there seems to be only one bay, Kaneohe Bay, small, with the Marine Corps Air station on its East end. Can't be a very quiet place with all that activity going on. Satelite pic shows the sandbars, lots of them. I also see you're on the same latitude as Baya California in Mexico, so it must be roasting hot for much of the year with you. I wouldn't object at all.

Pity your Spouse hates kilts/skirts on men, so does mine. Mine tought me how to sail, however & she's a very keen on that. It takes all sorts....

Eastern Oahu, roasting hot? I suppose it depends somewhat on your definition of roasting hot, but by the parallel it is quite cool there with the trades blowing in nearly all the time. There's a gargantuan air conditioner out there to keep things reasonable.

Milfmog pointed up the three of us, and of the three I am technically the orchestrator (or is that the unindicted co-conspirator?); however, we usually operate in a very collegial manner when it come to posts that have been brought to our attention by other community members and quite a lot of conversation goes on behind the scenes. Outright junk and "spam" gets binned immediately by whomever finds it first, but on matters of more subtle judgment, everybody pitches in.

As Milfmog indicates, the logs don't show anything getting deleted, and the only way that stuff can get deleted without showing up in a log is for me to manually fiddle with the database which I will attest that I have not recently. The only time I do is for mass purges of dead/banned/inactive accounts where doing the deed via the web interface would take me an entire afternoon of pointing and clicking.
