From the other side of the gender pond.......

Oh yeah, we are getting downright drunk on the aroma of the Solstice Roast. Wow! It smells good in here...

Yep I've read that birds in general are the closest living relatives to the dinosaurs and I don't see any reason not to believe it.crfriend wrote:In a word, "containment". Just as nuclear reactors need containment to both protect them from incursions from the "outside world" and to protect the outside world from what might go wrong with them, dinosaurs require the same treatment (Have you ever looked at a chicken really closely?).Mugs-n-such wrote:How in the world do the chickens escape the cats?

That's cool. I'm just a bit curious, do your eggs taste different than the store bought ones? I'm assuming that if anything they would taste better. Yum! Well, it may be time for me to fill up ye olde eggnog and tequila glass which is not glass but plastic. *hic* Just got back from seeing "Despicable Me" which I really enjoyed, although parts of it were hilarious, other parts were almost a tear-jerker. Well, I'm off to fill up and get some more eggnog and tequila. Peace to allSo, the chickens have containment structures built around them inside of which they can be happy and safe from the general atmosphere of our domicile which has a distinctive feline ambiance to it and where the cats are protected from the dinosaurs inside the containment structures.
The computers are rather benign when it comes to interactions towards the carbon-based world, although they tend to be on the "receiving end" therefrom.

Yes, they do. I cannot put my finger on it precisely, but the "super-fresh" eggs seem "richer" than the store-bought variety. Sapphire prepared an omlette from three eggs the other day and and it was the most amazingly tasty egg concoction I believe I've ever had. Good stuff!Mugs-n-such wrote:I'm just a bit curious, do your eggs taste different than the store bought ones?

By way of history, Gumdrop (named for his spectacular golden eyes) is a hospice case; he has a ventricular septal defect which means that his arterial blood mingles pretty freely with his veinous blood. When we took him home him he wasn't expected to live more than a couple of months. Of course that was a little more than a year ago, which is just fine with Sapphire and I.sapphire wrote:Carl got home, listened to the story and ran out of the room, looking for Gumdrop, fearing theat the 18 ounce chicken had caused heart failure in the 12 pounf cat. Gumdrop was cowering safely under the kitchen table.
He shares his name with something that should be familiar to space-geeks. Bonus points (for whatever those are worth) to anybody who can call it out.

In my opinion, they taste just like any other dinosaur or dragon egg.Mugs-n-such wrote:

This is a present for Sapphire and Crfriend. Hope you like it, if not please just ignore it. I'm used to being ignored anyway!
Here it is: Powerpuff Girls
I really liked that movie btw. Not many of my friends did except my best friend's wife. That song comes at the end of the movie I believe.

I live on a farm at least and we have around 30 hens and 10 roosters, along with 3 peafoul, a sheep, 2 nanny goats, a minature horse, a mule, 8 barn cats, 10 rabbits, 4 pigions, all of which live outside in the barn. But there is one exception to this mess and that is Mr. Softy who is a white silky rooster that lives in a dog crate in my basement appartment. This lad I am sure will debate the fact that he is even a chicken if you give him time ( well spoiled), he loves to watch tv, eat whatever you are eating, listen to music and even make you think that he is talking to you. This will and does make you question your sanity, for the most part he is very clean and neat and also quite quiet. Other animals in the house include a dog, a bird, a guinipig, and skirted when he is visiting. He will get even with me on that one later especioally now that he is in the process of moving in.
Home grown cackle berries are not usually chemicallize force fed animals living in a 6 inch square cage with a life span of 6 months to a year. Also I think that last year the magazine Mother Earth News did an artical on free range eggs vs. industrial and said that the free range egg had more nutrience and less cholesteral that the other. Besides that I feel that if you can raise it and care for it at least you know what went into it. It is no different than raising your own garden goodies or doing your own home cooking from home cooked meals to baking. It is just plain cleaner and healthier.

No Dear, no Partrage they are to flighty and the pear tree is only a year old and I don't think that it would even hold a bird of that size.

*whew* Kodiak this post is going to make me want to give up eating chicken. I remember the first time I saw a chicken killed and prepared for supper, I was spending the evening at a friend's house on his parents' farm, and his mother beheaded it, then plucked it and prepared it for the oven. For a long time after I saw that, I wasn't too keen on eating chicken. Sometimes I'm not too keen on beef either, cows have been known to have a "quiet time" for another that passed away at a certain time of day. They say you have to eat meat to be healthy, but I wonder if that is true...I'm not a vegetarian, I hasten to add, just thinking about drastically cutting down my intake of meat.kodiak wrote:I live on a farm at least and we have around 30 hens and 10 roosters, along with 3 peafoul, a sheep, 2 nanny goats, a minature horse, a mule, 8 barn cats, 10 rabbits, 4 pigions, all of which live outside in the barn.
