I guess Ohio is more progressive than Pennsylvania. I live Pike county in the Northeasthern corner of PA.rick401r wrote:JR, I live in Yellow Springs, Ohio where it's not uncommon to see a man in a dress or woman's skirt so my kilt draws very little attention. Yellow Springs OH? Population 3761 (2000 census) and it's "not uncommon to see a man in a dress or woman's skirt". Ohio appears to have more variance than I would have given it credit for. I have never seen a man in a dress around these parts. The only guys in skirts I have seen have been at the Contra dances. Kilts are rare except for the festivals like the Dublin Irish Festival, then the local guys grow "some" and haul out their Utilikilts thinking it's appropriate for an Irish Festival!
I will have to visit Yellow Springs!

Re: I want to wear a skirt!
Yeah, Pennsylvania is really really progressive. The Amish are even in the HEATER business now. When I lived in Eastern PA, where I was born, progressive for Amish were metal wood carriers for the stoves and hearths. I can see a long bearded plain Amish man breaking all the taboos on clothing in Pennsylvania and trying a man's plain black skirt.
Now skirts for men might happen a lot faster in Western PA in the Eastern European enclaves in the coal businesses there. Lots of people in Western PA with names ending in "ski" or "vich". Times change... I watched the Scripps National Spelling Bee on tv last weekend and most of the children are home schooled and hailing from the mid-west and west, most have East Indian surnames tho..The Times They Are A Changing..
East Indian clothing in India is mostly skirted garments for men, so maybe it will come here with the East Indians. We can hope.

Is this the Yellow Springs, Ohio that is home to Antioch College? If so, it's not so surprising. From what I've heard about the college, you'd have to be a lot wierder to raise any eyebrows there.JRMILLER wrote:Yellow Springs OH? AMM,
I checked the Antioch College site and in fact it is, that explains a lot! I will have to go sight-seeing there!

Now you get the picture. Very progresive and permissive community. Unfortunately, Antioch College was closed a couple of years ago but odd characters, like myself, still abound. You should come this Sat. for the semi annual street fair. Lots of weirdos...I'll be there.
Re: I want to wear a skirt!
Rick,
Please post the details -- don't think we have anything in particular going this weekend. Sounds fun!

You’ll also enjoy street performances by entertainers of all types as you stroll the streets during the festival.
Parents can drop off their preschoolers at Primary Languages (213 Xenia Ave., next to the Wind’s) for a fun-filled hour of Spanish stories, games, and songs. Classes at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 2:00 pm.
Live music will be performed from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on the front lawn of the Bryan Center on Dayton Street. Located adjacent to the Music Festival is the Beer Garden, featuring 8 beers from which to choose.

Rick,
Thanks -- you are just down SR 42 from where I am at in Delaware, a little over an hour drive. If I can pull away from chores Sat, I will drive down!
