I just found a nice mid calf length corduroy skirt for £10 in the Evans sale (knocked down from £30). It is sufficiently flared to allow me a full stride and to go up stairs two (or even three) at a time and has four usable pockets and a fly placket that opens to the right (for those that worry about such things).

It came with a matching corduroy tie belt that I have removed and will replace with a leather belt. It's remarkably warm and will reach well below the top of long socks or boots but is short enough that the hem should not get wet. Just what the doctor ordered for the snow we have at present.

Have fun,

Ian.

PS I'm debating whether the tie belt could be converted into a matching neck tie or opened out to make a cravat, maybe I should not throw it away just yet.

Fishnets

Post by Charlie »

That got your attention
Long ago I had a string vest which kept me nice and warm. I haven't seen any in the shops for years now. Anyway, they work by trapping air next to your skin and so keep you warm. I wondered of the same principle would apply to legs under a kilt.
So, while purchasing some 'frillies' for my wife's Christmas present, I bought a pair of fishnet tights.
We went for a walk last week, in the cold with a windchill of about -2C. I wore the fishnets with a pair of 60 denier high gloss tights on top (they have to be glossy to slide over the nets underneath). I wore wellies and a denim kilt, so there wasn't much leg directly exposed to the wind, but remember the "breeze between the knees". The result was that I didn't have cold legs - only cold fingers :D

You could always try these :D *. Somehow I don't picture Charlie wearing those in the town centre...

Have fun,

Ian.

* Took a bit of searching to find an illustration that did not feature young ladies wearing little else

Today...this morning at 4 am, the all time record for a cold morning in the middle keys was irrevokably broken. The previous record was 40F..at 4 this morning they registered 32F at the Marathon Airport. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

Well, he'd look a bit Goth, I suppose! :-) Maybe put them on under a pair of gauntlets?

Cheers,

I found that notion, that you lose heat through your head to have been debunked on a web site, don't remember which, a few weeks ago.
You only lose heat through your head when your head is bare and not covered.
So always wear a hat in winter, unless you a TV report or movie star who needs to show how macho you are.
It also mean that a bald headed person has more to lose then someone with a full head of hair. LOL!
Thank god it's going to be in the mid sixties here, Far NW suburbs of Chi Town.
Spring cant's be to far away.
