I'll be honest, gait-altering garments aren't for everybody, but I'd wanted a really long skirt for quite a while, and I indulged myself in this one. It's not a nuisance per se, I just have to be aware that I don't have full-range motion in it (at least without damaging the garment). It's also not like I have to mince around in it, either; I just pull back my normal 36" stride to about 30" or so. In that respect, it's not really any worse than wearing a mini where you have to remember to keep your knees together when sitting.
I wear long skirts a lot, but mine don't restrict movement as they are (I guess the term is) flowing. Only problem is stairs. I learned to gather up the front a bit so I'm not tripping over my own hem. Sort of like Scarlet O'Hara ascending the staircase in Tara. That can be a problem when your hands are full with other stuff. No minis for me though - got too much going on between the legs to sit like that!

This calls up what I term "management", and is an eminently learnable skill. When ascending stairs, one should quite naturally reach forward and gently lift the forward edge of the hem so it won't touch the steps ahead of one (else the hem will get dirty). When descending, the skirt should be "swept" from behind so the trailling hem doesn't scrape the steps. Interestingly, I learned those skills quite easily -- one might say that they "came naturally". The most interesting bit is that I, in moments of forgetfulness, can be seen to make the motions when I'm wearing tr*users. (Only the extremely observant notice, and of those only the very astute make the connection.)
That can be a problem when your hands are full with other stuff.
You'll get no arguments from me on that count. The only advice I can offer is to just cope as best you can. A one-hand "grab" as an attempt to "sweep" coming down stairs works (just), and the same goes for ascending (just), but it's better than nothing.

Aww, give it a go, if only in private. They're wonderfully liberating garments.

Don't you wish there was a standards law requiring all garments to fit the size they advertise?

I certainly do, my first attempts have given me some which won't fasten through to others which need a belt to keep them up. Then there are the differences between UK and US sizes and probably others as well.
Things would also be easier with a flat belly, but a six pack just wasn't enough and I had to go for a keg! so waist bands need to hang on tight to avoid slipping off!

"Keg abs" -- I love it! Definitely a new term for "beer gut". Like skirts, we need to get that into general circulation.

Well the others came: the long straight skirt is too tight, comfy but the waist is too small at the moment, but I've checked and have put on a few pounds so I just have to get rid of some of the keg. The combat skirt is great, it fits, doesn't look feminine and gives the legs plenty of room for legging around. Even has proper pockets. I'd recommend one.
