Had an appointment with a physiotherapist today, it specified shorts as needed for the examination, so I packed a pair, but travelled there in my A line grey tweed skirt. No reactions or comments at all, which was as it should be and as expected.

Anyone note that a skirt is a form of crotchless shorts - be they ultra-mini-skirts (short shorts) mini-skirt (shorts) or a standard knee length skirt (Bermuda shorts) !
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

I believe you've hit on a marketing meme that some retailers might want to hit on. Frederick's of Hollywood comes to mind, but they may be moribund by now.

Ah the "Frederick's of Hollywood" the predecessor to "Victoria's Secret" and today no longer a secret.
Used to be that porno stuff was the classified section of Sears Roebucks; Montgomery Wards and the
JCPenny catalogs - now these days the newspaper ads show 99/44 100% more skin than ever.

Well, possibly, however using the skirt would not have been a good idea, because at one point I had to lie back on the examining table and while leaving one leg down, bring the other knee up to my chest. Suppose I could have asked for the screens to be pulled... :D

Last night I wore my best ankle-length black skirt to a charity supper. It has a flared hem and the material is glossy, heavy and supple, so it falls in gorgeous rippling folds. I thought I ought to look my best because I was the guest speaker - giving a talk about "Sex and Gender".

It was about 40 degrees this morning so I decided to put in a pair of tights. This is the first time I have ventured out wearing tights. Made the usual stops Lotto store post office supermarket than off to Lowe's to get some lumber and paint. I was a little concerned because Tights are a ladies garment and I didn't want to draw extra attention. Than I realized to Quote HILLARY " what difference does it make",
You were wearing a mini skirt in the first place.

Considering that most of her outfits are pants (pun fully intended there) she'd not necessarily be the one to comment in this particular case.

That sounds like quite the get-up. I have a skirt like that, in what sounds like a similar material, but mine has full-length pleats in it.

How was the talk received?

Very well indeed - much to my surprise, as these types of organisations have a reputation for being very conservative. They listened and watched intently and asked some very sensible questions at the end. Although I listed some reasons for wearing a skirt in the talk and some of them had seen me in a denim skirt before, the more obviously feminine skirt might still have raised some eyebrows - but it didn't.

That's very encouraging. I suspect the reason that the floor-length skirt didn't attract criticism or "raised eyebrows" was likely entirely down to your demeanour and the nature of your talk. Well done.

So long as there is any means for rational interaction, most folks -- even the dyed-in-the-wool conservatives -- can be brought 'round so long as things are explained cogently and respectfully to them. They might not completely "get it", but at least they'll learn to be respectful and somewhat understanding. They'll probably not run out and buy a skirt for themselves, but if interactions like these can foster discussion and understanding then it's all for the better.

I went to the supermarket not long ago in a black denim mini, nobody noticed apart from one woman who gave a very subtle look up and down!!!
It's given me the confidence to go into town tomorrow and do a bit more shopping for the essentials and have a general walk about town in a skirt... :D

This is exactly what I was wearing... 8)

Tack, very similar to what I wear only my skirts are more flared. In summer I go bare-legged and in winter wear tights or thigh-highs. There's no reason why you should attract any attention dressed like that.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

It's not cold enough for tights yet, but when it is I will wear them, that or a pair of leggings - I know leggings are controversial on here under skirts...
