SkirtCafe gets a mention in ABCnews.com article!

So my sweet husband sends me a link to an article about guys wearing skirts and I proudly noticed we are in there in the fifth paragraph. http://blogs.abcnews.com/worldview/2008 ... round.html

Well, I've just read the complete article and all of the 'comments'.

I'ld hazzard a guess that 60% of the 'comments' are for men in skirts,
25% against and the remaining 15% are telling those against to get a life.
To wake up and realize that we have more important things to consider than
men in skirts.

To quote

associate a skirt with. To me, a man in a skirt/kilt is quite masculine and powerful.

Kilts have been worn for centuries...as a individual of Scottish decent....those
that think Kilts or skirts are foolish...are full of Blarney!

I like how the word "skirt" automatically makes people assume that anyone
wearing that style of clothing is a woman or a homosexual man
(at least in this corner of the planet).

Fine! Call it a kilt! Make up a new name for it! Getting hung up on the word...

Lastly--

Another one of those silly little conventions that we accept blindly,
until someone questions them. There's no reason men can't wear
whatever they like, and a skirt of some kind has been traditional male wear
for many centuries. It sure seems like it'd be more comfortable for them.

These are samples of what was 'commented' on. Some were
'iffy' at best while others were complete negatives. The positives
out weight the negatives almost 2 to 1.

So, the 'concept' is expanding and this is Good News

I wonder how long it will be before the next article appears

As the article points out, there are articles of clothing in other cultures (consider kilts, sarongs, kaftans and the djellaba) that are like skirts. This doesn't take away from their masculinity, so why is it so appalling in the West?

This reminds me of when camping with my Kikoy on, my sister in law had no problem with it. She thought it was a towel, but!, when she found out it was a West Africans males wrap, she made a facial expression of repulsiveness. Actually I have never seen her look so disgusted - ever!

Is the male built different in the west then they are in the east?

A Kikoy is the name of a company that makes Kikoi's.
Oh that explains a lot.
They are the African version of a sarong and do look a lot like a thin towel.
Ok here is a picture from their web page


A second picture - in Africa this guy would be considered cross-dressing.
e also has about as much hair on his head as I do.


Both pictures having solid centers are traditional womens kikois.
Mens kikoi's are more colorful and have a pattern in the center like:


It has only been recent that the younger women have started wearing the more colorful mens kikoi. Can you believe women that Cross-dress!

I've added a few responses to some of the more hard core anti - Mug wearers like "wtfSERIOUSLYwtf ''who believes any man wearing a skirted garment is in a "primitive" society.
I mentioned people like David Beckham who wears a sarong, the Emperor of Japan who wears a Kimono and Prince Charles who wears a kilt...I wouldn't call any of those people's societies primitive.

People can't resist suggesting that uyou can see what for person, qua character, behavior, morales he/she has by the clothing they wear. Utter UTTER UTTER rubbish. And they know it.

That is the underlying problem that men in skirts face from people who are bent on discrediting others, amongst whom men in skirts are also targetted.

Why do we listen to the fools and bast..ds who are so full of hate/ probably because they are the ones who make the most noise, are most heard.

So either we have to shut them up for good....
Or make more positive noise than they can.
Proving their suggestion wrong is one way to shut them up.

Thankfully there are many intereseted people who take up the gauntlet in our behalf.

Now that's a photo of a happy man, Rich! To me that is the essence of the cafe- let the guys wear what makes them smile.

I'm shocked at their behavior! Just as skirts are obviously only appropriate for women, the masculinity of specific colors and patterns is clear across all cultures. Maybe they have a kikoicafe support group?

Since the article got posted on ABC I would have thought more new members would arrive at the cafe. Makes me wonder if there aren't many men intrigued by the idea of adding to their wardrobe. Mods, have the visits gone up noticeably?
