Renaissance Fair and Halloween

Post by Yonkas »

Hi,

So, as some of you may remember, I ordered a cheongsam from orienttouch.com (beautiful design, but not the best mending). At any rate, I went to both the Renaissance fair and out in Halloween dressed this way. I really wish I could just casually don this sort of attire (maybe not always so elaborately) amongst people. At any rate, here's a picture of me before the renaissance fair.

Yes, I know, it's the Renaissance Fair, but who cares? I received alot of positive comments on my attire. A few people were even interested in the place where I got my costume. To account for the slit, I wore a skirt underneath. It looks pretty cool. I really think that we could bring something like this back to men's formal attire.

-PS because I don't want my image displayed all over the web, I'll take this down in a day or so. Please, if you wish to use it somewhere, ask permission.

What an interesting and cool world it would be if anyone could dress how they wanted without ridicule?
That looks great to me Yonkas. The plebs in the High street wouldn't understand, they'd think it was some sort of costume. If I was wearing it and someone said "why are you wearing that?" I'd say I was on my way to a chinese celebration.
Then, when you wear it out again and someone asks, say the same thing. Keep wearing it and keep answering queries the same way. Eventually all the locals will think you're always on the way to a chinese celebration! It'll confuse them even more and hopefully they'll stop bothering you.
I'm going to do a similar thing with my new kilt which has just arrived..."On my way to a Burns Night"....Over and over and over again :)

Very colourful costume, indeed!

Probably the best thing about wearing such gear, is that if anyone were to ask, "Why are you wearing that?", "I'm going to a function/party which celebrates the Chinese festival of <whatever you want to make up!>", no-one's gonna quibble with that! Err, unless they happen to be Chinese, perhaps!!!!!!!!

That looks great, Yonkas! I'm sure it kept the less-intelligent guessing.

Haha, that's an amusing idea and certainly one to consider.

Yeah, well I almost ate at a chinese restaurant that day, but thought better of it. When I walked in they became befuddled and wouldn't stop staring at me. I decided that it was better not to risk offending people who were to prepare my food, so I went to another place.

Thank you. I was concerned that I came across as looking too fat.

Thanks. I received alot of compliments on it at the fair, and no negative comments at all. There was this one guy who shouted across to me in a hilarious way, "I don't care what people say, Sir, that is definitely your color."

Yeah, it was very nice. And of course, since it was the Ren Fair, I wasn't the only guy there in a skirt. Actually, there was this one gentleman in the bird sanctuary in a cool pirate costume wearing a prairie skirt in place of pants. I wonder if he was a fellow MIS/MIK.
