Gauchos

Post by Rogon »

Just thought you might find this interesting. Gauchos, along with many of today's women's fashions were/are men's attire. I've liked the look since I first saw a woman with a pair some 5 years ago and finally bought a pair this summer. Then, because of the name, I went searching for their origin. Here's a pic from Wikkepaedia

I kind of like the skirts better though.

Gauchos

I think, and I may be wrong, "Gaucho pants" are named after the normal wear of "Gauchos" or Brazilian, Venezuelan, or Argentinian cowboys, who, when angered don't pull a 6 gun and shoot, but pull a bolo and throw it at you, effectively wrapping you up like a smoked ham. :)

Well you're close. Gauchos are the South American cowboys. If you back up on the WIko picture page you'll find that explanation. It doesn't say anything about sling shots but it does talk about rough 'n ready much like the old buccaroos. (sp?) I found it interesting that even tho 'they' (the South Americans) still hold on to a 'macho' mentality, the men in the picture seem undetured (sp?). Much like the kilted Scot or the faustonelled Greeks.

Sling Shots

Post by Since1982 »

I didn't say anything about sling shots either. A bolo is 2 or 3 round hard balls on 3 to 4 foot cords with the ends away from the balls coming together and attached to each other like a handle to hold while swinging the balls around your head before aiming at someone's or someone's horse's legs and letting go....That's a lonnnng way from a sling shot which entails a 2 part mechanism, the sling and what you shoot out of it (a steel ball or a rock usually) by pulling it back like the arrow of a bow and letting go.

add faustonelled to the (sp) list...LOL

You're right (RE: Bolo's) I just mis-interpreted your post. Interesting word as well, bolo's, we have in this country bolo ties. I wonder how we managed to re-write the definition of that word.
