most atrocious bell bottom pants.

Post by timemeddler »

Okay, I wear fun colonial style breaches when skirts are a no-no, but now I feel like making pants that are the exact opposite. something sufficiently awful specifically to bug people who complain about skirts. I was thinking some really hippie bell-bottoms, perhaps tye-dye or flower power, something that shows skirts can look way better than some pants. any suggestions? :D

My all time favorite pair of trousers was a pair of bell bottom jeans I "inherited" from my mum. Except for when they were in the wash or I was wearing shorts, I practically lived in them for ten years. I sadly no longer fit in them though.

Mine were similar to these, except Levis with the usual jeans fittings and fly.

There are also the Japanese Hakama trousers, or martial arts trousers that are quite skirt like. Not bell bottom of though.

I did a quick search for free pattern bell bottom trousers and got a lot of hits that look useable. Finding a gaudy fabric might be harder but looking at curtains in second hand might be a good idea.

I have no idea what gives with the modern revulsion towards flared trousers, unless it's a knee-jerk reaction to a freer, happier time. Some of the designs were actually quite attractive -- and were deployed by both sexes to good effect.

I actually own a pair like this. I haven't figured out how to wear them. I had a pair 45 years ago or more that I wore with a puffy-sleeved flowered shirt and 3-inch platform shoes. Nobody batted an eye.

You sure you want to admit to something like that in a public forum?

That was before my conservative period set in. Conservative in dress, not so much in thinking. But I must admit I was firmly in the traditional Western man box for some time.

Everybody slags off on the 1970s, but that was really the last of times where things were hopeful and the future looked bright. In other words, it was a perfect environment for experimentation to flourish. Compare to modern times where hope is a long-gone dream from the past and the future is truly and horribly bleak. Is it any wonder everybody is "turning turtle" and retreating to "the box"?
