Age, Style & Hemlines

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

If one has problems with "dragging" or other friction-based problems, a slip will definitely help -- if not solve altogether -- the problem.
Oddly women seem to have an age box which descends over them if they are not careful. You know the one where they have to have shorted hair and skirts have to be below the knee.
I've known that for decades as the "I gave up years ago" look -- and, yes, it's blisteringly common save that "leggings" and jeans have largely supplanted skirts.
Of course you get some wonderful women who have long hair and short skirts well into old age. So, society tries to control both men and women in different ways as to how they appear.
Double-standards, like double-edged blades, cut both ways -- and do so differently. And both can be stunningly dangerous.

Women tend to stop wearing certain clothes as they age because they are afraid of the 'mutton dressed as lamb' label.

Women's bodies also change with age to signal they are not longer fertile and this can affect what clothes your feel confident in too.

You do not have this issue so enjoy whatever length you like.

Hi Susie, the cafe is depressing.

I have looked back over Cafe posts going back years and the situation has not changed for MIS. The fact that the still here is positive in itself.

I think with members like Jeff showing what is possible for a man to wear, we all have hope of dressing with more style and fun. I also think that the message I get from the cafe, is to disregard what other people think and wear clothes that make you happy. I know my mental health has greatly improved since I wore skirts in public. The same is true for women as well and don't listen to anybody talking old sheep.
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

FWIW -
I've used cotton and nylon half slips.
I prefer the nylon as it doesn't cling to a skirt OR tights/panty hose.
The cotton slips have a tendency to cling to both, a feeling I don't like.
Definitely nylon with my support/compression panty hose(which I'm required to wear).

DVT, Cellulitis and Edema are things to avoid so, stay healthy :!:

My intuition says you are not only gonna be proclaiming improved mental health, but be ecstatic on the top of Maslow's pyramid of self-actualization when you add in your family and friends to your public persona. These secrets and fear of family are perhaps more "real" in the sense that your family will free free to 'question or comment' in ways that strangers do not -- but, they also know you so they are free to inquire in ways the public feels is crossing the decorum line. It also gives you are great deal more opportunity to share the notions and ideas we see so often here in the SC; that attire is not a signifier of much more than a man becoming aware of the prison men have been in, and the many negative ramifications of that prison rut. It is an opportunity to educate people far more fully and effectively than our casual meetings with strangers. And of course -- the real freedom to be you with anyone is so much healthier than feeling you are doing something that needs approval.

Not to be a deterrent, but with your flamboyant style, the odds are good you are going to be 'outed' one of these days, and it will be so much nicer to take that as a grand public compliment/endorsement ["Hey, isn't that great -- my 15 minutes of glory!"] rather than the notion of 'having been caught out' at something 'tawdry' & trying to explain it away -- "only party attire"....

Wear what you want, style, length, colour etc. Not what others say or expect. If you are comfortable, feel good with yourself that is all that matters. At 6ft 6, long legged, my choice has always been 36 inches to 39 inches for skirts, even 20 odd years ago. I have one or two at 34 inches and I do not feel at ease in them. It's only 2 inches but neither the less, it affects my consciousness, they feel short. I do wear them, but not as often. Some on this forum wear far shorter length skirts than 34, down to 12 and 14 inches. Wow, you have my respect but not for me.

I always put on an outfit that looks the part, looks good etc but at the end of the day perception is personal, we are all different, see things differently.

Regardless of age, if you think it looks good, feels good then wear it. I do.
