Florence + The Machine Proms Performance
As part of the BBC Proms, Florence + The Machine gave a performance at the Royal Albert Hall centered around an orchestral interpretation of their (now 15-year old) debut album (Lungs).
Lead singer Florence sported a Rodarte dress and her backing singers were dressed by Allen & Adcock. Regarding the latter, I don't know if you would describe the backing singers outfits as dresses over leggings or wrap skirt / dress or something else? The main point is that the garments appear to be identical for both sexes.
Take a look at the video from 4.00 mins in and let me know how you would describe them.
Lungs was an album that I played to death upon its release. I've been to see the band a couple of times (once in what was effectively a large warehouse in Coventry and once at a semi-outdoor, amphitheatre location in MA). I think this was one of those performances that would have been much more enjoyable if you had been there in person (a friend of mine who is a semi-pro singer and appears at the Proms every year trashed Florence's singing as being flat and whining).
As an aside, the Royal Albert Hall features a pretty impressive organ (I'm sure that Uncle Al is familiar with it). For this concert, it was played by the fabulous Anna Lapwood

I thought the concert was great. I would have loved to attended. The backing singers as you say all wore the same robes/dresses. I liked what Florence was wearing and now I want a dress with sleeves to the floor....
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

Agree, Mouse - I think it would have been a spectacular event to have attended in person. I don't know whether it was my Sonos kit that wasn't doing the audio mix justice or whether it is just difficult to accurately convey the soundscape when there are so many different things going on concurrently across the audio spectrum during an event like this.
Thinking some more of backing singers, I feel that robes / dresses for both sexes is something that I've seen before in the world of popular music. Maybe a precedent is set with religious choirs?

Alas, during the Covid epidemic the Beeb discontinued 5.1 surround sound in TV broadcasts from the Proms, and hasn't resumed it. This is a real loss, especially in the case of big spectaculars at the Royal Albert Hall.FranTastic444 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 12:47 pm Agree, Mouse - I think it would have been a spectacular event to have attended in person.
