Kilted Road Trip

Post by Bill »

Two days ago my wife and I embarked on a coast to coast road trip. We live in Delaware and she needs to visit two more states to complete the lower 48. Last September we picked up my final four and added 11 to her tally. I did tag trip kilted every day but one.
This year I packed a few kilts, no pants and only one pair of shorts (which are at the very bottom of my suitcase).

I’ll try to add a photo or two along the way.

What is your attire of choice while on a long drive?

Certainly not a woollen kilt or skirt, that's for sure.
More likely to be a cotton or linen dress in summer or a knitted one in winter.
All layered as required.
Enjoy the trip, both of you.

A few years ago myself and my wife drove to Sydney for a week long event, for the drive south, 11 1/2 hours, I wore an army green ripstop utility kilt, which is not too heavy, that was quite comfortable for the trip and the first night part of the event, no undue attention.

Earlier this year we flew from Brisbane to Cairns, then a week later Cairns to Melbourne then Melbourne to Hobart Tasmania, then from Hobart back to Brisbane, 3 of those flights wearing an Ozkilt utility kilt.
No reactions, and no issues apart from the buckles and metal detectors but that was fine after a wand down.

No problems driving long distance of flying around the country.

We have covered the same territory, but all in an old Patrol with a small caravan and rarely saw another skirt, but at the Mona in Hobart you well might; and in your home town I know there is an occasional citing. I always expected to to see a MIS in Cairns, but I was probably too distracted by the ladies in so little! Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed making the rounds.

Mona in Hobart... We went there in November 2021, that place I can only describe as the most bizarre place I have I think I have ever been to, and seeing a bloke in a skirt there... one would be left trying to work out if he was one of the exhibits or a visitor....
And yes, I've seen a number if blokes in skirts and kilts around these parts, recently a few about 20 year olds approximately.

Ah, maybe that is why I fit right in there. But, I shared your sense of wondering if such thoughts might enter folks mind's there. Weird indeed, not just the structure and layout -- but among the crazy things, there was a plaster cast display of 50 or more "fanny" parts....that I was thought was a bit over the top, and certainly wondered about what would bring so many women to model for such.

I was not the first, and I doubt the last showing up to Meeting in Kelvin Grove in a skirt; that was over a decade ago so it should be comfortable territory if meditative sits have any appeal -- lovely balcony overlooking the wood.

Today was our 17th day on the road and we are now heading home - should get there next Tuesday. I have worn a kilt every day. The shorts I packed are still in the bottom of the suitcase. I have two SportKilts, one USA Kilts and one Got-Kilt utility kilt. My blue SportKilt has gotten the most wear thus far.

I will post pictures (my wife took plenty) when I get to a computer so I can resize them to "work" here for uploading.

The shorts should stay where they are and next time replace them with an extra skirt, it makes sense. :)
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...
