Fourteen Percent of Men Wear Nail Polish?
Re: Fourteen Percent of Men Wear Nail Polish?
I think I'd use it if I didn't work in healthcare, where we are not allowed it(the ministry of health deem it unsanitary, but lacks any sort of scientific evidence that this is true). I won't say no if my daughter or wife wants to paint them though, its just tedious to remove when its time for work.
That said, even my dad allowed his granddaughters to paint his nails and he'd show them off to the hospital staff proudly, that would never ever have happened when I grew up!

I live fairly close to the original Attleborough (Norfolk, UK) - we pronounce it "atulbruh" where both the "u"s are short central vowels (schwa) and the stress is on the first syllable.crfriend wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 1:34 am [
Pronunciation guide: In that part of the world "boro" is pronounced with the leading "o" short and the second one one long. It's almost, but quite like, "borrow". Pronouncing it as "burrow" is alien in that part of the world, although I did so for a bit as I was getting steeped in UK English thanks to all the short-wave work.
Good luck! I escaped there in 1979 and haven't looked back save to visit old friends.

Small world. I had a manicure in Wymondham (pronounced Windham) this morning, the next town along the A11.I live fairly close to the original Attleborough (Norfolk, UK) - we pronounce it "atulbruh" where both the "u"s are short central vowels (schwa) and the stress is on the first syllable.

What color nail polish did you get and did you get nail extensions?DTSA wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 1:32 pmSmall world. I always have nail art so multi coloured gel on a gel over coating. Get them done every four weeks and lasts well.

I regularly wear nail polish. Different colours, matt, glossy or sparkly. I don’t have any shades of red really if you don’t count deep orange, violet or purple — somehow red or pink just don’t feel right, but everything else I have a plenty of. When in doubt, I choose black or blue.

I've seen this, it's been going on since probably at least the early 2000's late 1990's. Of course we all made jokes about it.

Yes, TM and also note that in the original posts, 14% is called into question due to misquoting of the original article.timemeddler wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 7:19 pm I've seen this, it's been going on since probably at least the early 2000's late 1990's. Of course we all made jokes about it.
In July, last year I made the “never say never” comment and since then I have been experimenting with nail colouring myself.
That is due in a large part to support and encouragement from Susie for which, I really am grateful.
Regardless of a percentage, the increase in the number of men polishing their nails must have increased in the last ten years or so.
Fourteen percent may read forty percent today.
Steve,

I've worn nail polish for 20 years.
I wear shades like my skin so men and most women dont notice I'm wearing nail polish.
They just think nice manicure then they notice that my nails are indeed polished occasionally French tipped.

My nail polish wearing goes through phases depending on life and my work. I firmly have the choice to wear it, as much or as little as I want.
As if to encourage me, my daughter bought me a loverly rich blue colour polish from NAILBERRY, a brand I didn't even know about, for Christmas. I know, I am a fortunate man to have a supportive daughter.

Re: Fourteen Percent of Men Wear Nail Polish?
The article link for me was broken so I couldn't read what they were talking about reference nail polish. I would suspect that a fair number of that 14% are like me. I have been using a nail polish hardener to help repair damaged nails and prevent further damage. It is a clear polish that is a bit shiny. But it works and years of damage is being reversed. Then I top it with a matt clear finish. In the end, it doesn't look like I am wearing any nail polish at all. I just look like a dude who takes care of his nails.Stu wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2013 11:28 am Why would any guy want to wear nail polish?
I simply can't get my head around that one. I'm all for grooming - I wash, shave, comb my hair and occasionally yank out the odd unsightly nostril or other stray hair which has no business growing in or on my face, but that's about as far as I'm willing to go. Make-up and other types of "prettification" (made up word!) is for females, so far as I am concerned.

For the first few times it was awkward for me to apply nail varnish (polish), especially holding the brush with the non-dominant hand, but with practice it's much easier.FranTastic444 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 4:51 pm I've dabbled with nail varnish. Decided that I don't have the skill, dexterity and patience needed for DIY applications.

Re: Fourteen Percent of Men Wear Nail Polish?
I happen to think the percentage has grown since this posting. I myself have been getting pedicures with my wife for at least 25 years, now I'm 67 to add some perspective. At first I would get a clear coat but after being prodded by my wife and nail lady. I've gotten my toenails painted on a regular basis. I also have seen more guys at the nail salon getting their nails done on both hands and feet. I just stick to toenails. The only people who see my toenails now are my family and the ladies at hot yoga. I have gotten plenty of comments on my choice of color. I have settled on aqua green as my favorite for know. I have gotten positive random comment from strangers regarding my toenails, mostly women and a few dudes.
Re: Fourteen Percent of Men Wear Nail Polish?
The 1% mentioned would have (back then) likely been those individuals with a particularly strong interest/desire. Similar to MIS. The people who have/have had a particularly strong interest in the forbidden are the most likely to break a taboo.Milfmog wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2013 12:33 pm
Personal (very unscientific) observation would suggest that 95% of men would either not notice or not object to other men wearing subtle nail polish, but that is a world away from wearing it themselves. Certainly the observed percentage of men with nail polish would be below 1% in my neck of the woods.

Re: Fourteen Percent of Men Wear Nail Polish?
I found out concretely the hard way today that fancy nails and computer maintenance are not compatible. Full stop.
I attempted a repair to an early 1990s IBM X-Station 130 power supply today (which failed) and utterly destroyed the fancy multi-colour nail varnish I'd done on my nails a couple of days earlier. Surprisingly (or not) my left hand took the worst of the damage with not one nail unscathed and several nicked or cracked. I'd hate to think of the potential damage if I was doing heavy surgery!
Everyone at dinner who queried me on the mess understood when I mentioned, "It's the price of computer hardware maintenance" because my interests and passions are well-known.
