Where will we be in say... ten years?
Re: Where will we be in say... ten years?
Toe in the water? In reference to the Due Lipa thread, we may have reached a real, if modest, milestone. Skirted men have become acceptable (at least in the background) as part of a performance.
A decade from now? At that point it may be only another 80 years for a sartorial revolution to reach completion.

Possibly larger. Perhaps, as timemeddler suggested, as large as the kilties. I expect that there may be a fair number who are interested, but are still in the closet.

I am but one. I have changed in the last 10 years including my skirt wearing choices and activities. I hope I'm not alone. I always have hope for the future.
Re: Where will we be in say... ten years?
I have zero hopes that skirts will ever be normalized for men (outside of Scotland, Southern India, Fiji, etc.) It was far easier to justify normalizing pants for women due to safety reasons and to allow women an equal chance to participate in physically active tasks. But there really is no safety argument for men to wear skirts--only reason to justify male skirt-wearing is comfort and subjective aesthetics.

I don't think skirts for men will ever be normalized in Western society, and truthfully, I really don't care. As long as it's not criminalized I'll be just fine.

I would second that.
I think if you look at how many women wear skirts, the most men you are ever going to get to wear skirts is the same. Women now wear skirts because they want to for any number of reasons. I think men can get to the same stage and maybe wear skirts, when they previously would be wearing shorts today.
In the UK we already can do this as men. No, it is not common, but I am finding no problem in wearing a skirts everyday. The more of us that just do it, the commoner it will become and the easier it will be for other men to use a skirt instead of a pair of shorts.
Already, if you look around, many men are wearing skirts and dresses for culture or religious reasons. They call them all manner of names, but if you stand back and look, it is a dress or skirt, as a kilt is a skirt, as a man's long coat is a thick dress when buttoned up.
I think we all, in the UK at least, just need to get out there and be free. Nothing is stopping you except what is in your own head. And remember, Nobody on the average UK street cares what you wear, they are far too busy with their own lives.

That is very much my thinking, we can wear skirts now and it does not matter if it is not a popular choice for other men.
The future? Who knows; it might be radioactivity proof suits which would not be much fun, albeit in bright colours.

We should be asking
"Where will men be in ten years?"
"Where will men be in ten years?"

Re: Where will we be in say... ten years?
This thread was begun nearly ten years ago, so this seems to be appropriate.
Never ever in all my wildest flights of fancy, vivid imagination too, did I ever think this would happen.
I nearly broke a personal resolution and buried it in pics and looks, safely out of sight is just not me.
Besides, men in skirts shouldn't always be po faced and angst ridden adversity, we have a right to some fun too.
I will let the picture tell the rest and thanks to the photographer and creative influencer too,
Steve.

Stevie, I think we are getting closer to your image for the painting……

Hi Mouse,
That's a resounding no chance.
That boa has to be one of the least comfortable things to have around ones neck.
No, the proposed central feature for the painting is in hand and will be kept under wraps until we have the final product.
The only preview will be for my personal stylist and Aberdeen's answer to good old Vince Van Gogh.

Women basically just had a toe in the water during the second half of the 19th century. Getting a foot in the door...had to wait till the early 20th century.
Unfortunately, it is all too easy to imagine MIS getting stuck indefinitely at the foot-in-the-door stage, or even the toe in the water stage.

Sounds very exciting and mysterious.

Re: Where will we be in say... ten years?
I think the problem is that the women were pushing at a door to a room full of men, all in trousers. MIS are pushing at a door to an almost empty room, where a few women breeze in and out depending on the weather.
I think skirt wearing is similar to hat wearing. Sometimes a hat is a great idea and lots of people suddenly sprout hats. A few people wear hats all the time as part of their look. Years ago everybody wore hats when they went out.
I think the place we want to get to is "free choice". We have it with hats, we demand it with skirts...

Correct Mouse, except not demand, take it with skirts and don't stop there either.
Let's just say we should all just wear what we damn well please, no boundaries.
All we can do is be the living proof that it is actually possible.
