The worst job
In 2005 I put a toilet in the top bedroom. The exit pipe had to run at a shallow fall though an eves cupboard before reaching the stack pipe. I said to the family "this toilet is wee only". Last year it stopped running very well and this weekend overflowed when the cistern malfunctioned. Time for action.
I took the practically flat pipe out (3m) and found it 3/4 full with grey sludge. Two hours later of carefull scooping with drain rods and the pipe was clear. Four buckets of sludge of mosty toilet paper and an onion skin. It was one of the most eye watering, stench jobs I have ever done. The smell was so bad that I cleaned the whole enclosed area with bleach. I then found that bleach in an enclosed space is worse than the thick ammonia of the sludge.
What's the worst job you have ever done?
Btw in a no blame way I told the family what I found and asked them if anyone knew how it could have got there. Both ladies sheepishly admitted using toilet paper. I will buy a waste bin today.

Probably replacing a ceiling in an old house with over 100 years of dust from dust storms.

Always nice to have a hot shower at the end of the day.
At least it didn't stink.

Good work DM! You got a proper coating in fine, dirty dust. I'm glad to see you are wearing a quality dust mask and you are wearing a skirt.denimini wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 10:25 am Probably replacing a ceiling in an old house with over 100 years of dust from dust storms.

Re: The worst job
I had one of those between jobs job where I used to go around the local authority open areas and empty and clean the dog poo waste bins! I had a little van and the waste would stay in the van for 3 or 4 days until it was collected centrally. You can imagine the smell during the summer. I must point out that the rear of the van was sealed but it didn't stop some of the smell getting through. I used to park the van further down the road from my house to avoid the flies lol

That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.victor1964 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 7:17 pm I had one of those between jobs job where I used to go around the local authority open areas and empty and clean the dog poo waste bins! Dog poo is the worst. You must have a very strong stomach.
I can't imagine how you faced the working day, even getting in the van must have been a trial.

Our place is only 60 years old but I have replaced ceilings and usually end up looking like that also. We have the same red dirt here.denimini wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 10:25 am Probably replacing a ceiling in an old house with over 100 years of dust from dust storms.

Probably getting my hand down the toilet bowl to remove the brown and smelly after one of my offspring has ‘logged’ it.

Re: The worst job
I learned the hard way the first time when I replaced a toilet. I neglected to flush the old toilet several times before removing it, so I had stinky water on the bathroom floor. The next time I replaced a toilet I DID make sure I flushed the old toilet several times before removing it.
