sourcing poly vivcose fabric for kilts
Does anyone know where to find this stuff in tartan? Closest thing I can find in plaid uniform fabric however it's only 7 oz. I'm looking to make a lightweight dance kilt and would rather not go full on wool for my first attempt. I'm looking for more like 10 oz to 12 oz approximately.

Check out Ebay and Etsy for starters.
Several possibilities showed up when I googled Poly Viscose Tartan Fabric.
Many of "The Kilt Shops" will sell double-width (59") fabric.
So, 4 yards raw material would yield an 8 yard kilt.
When in doubt, check Walmart's fabric department. If this is your first
attempt, try using a more cost effective fabric to learn with. That's
what I did

Marton Mills is the only one that makes the REAL PV material for kilts. At one time you could buy directly from them but that does not appear to be possible now.

I looked up a tartan at random to see what it costs. For Ramsay Blue BA028T - Marton Mills - Polyviscose - DW: it came back as $39.71 per double width metre. Double width is 55" wide. If the tartan is "symmetrical" you can buy half the amount you need then cut it in half. Join the two halves together for the full length. That won't work if the tartan is asymmetrical.
This place also sells wool for kilts. That stuff is getting expensive.
