Movie: Nope

Post by Coder »

I just watched Nope (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10954984/) and one of the characters is a cameraman who wears some kind of skirted dress/outfit - might be asian in origin. He plays a pivotal role, and was sort of played up as a big thing by other characters. I liked that his attire was treated as normal, though I presume the choice was very intentional to highlight his "artistic creds".

As this is an allegorical film, there are lots of articles out there offering opinions on the content. I read one piece that specifically referenced the character in question to be wearing a sarong. There were actually more references to his scarf, which is apparently a nod to the style of the real-life cinematographer for this flick.

The thing that surprised me is the fact that the character Ricky "Jupe" Park isn't the one who gets to wear the skirt!
