Mixed feelings about this school in Uganda where boys wear "kilts", which in reality look like kilted versions of the girls skirts and more comfortable than the real thing. What does look obvious is how normal it has become to everyone there and it seems perfectly natural to have both genders wearing skirts.
Imagine this catching on in the UK and other places Cafe members are located, potentially spilling to outside school and the adult population.

Interesting video. The comments reveal that ignorance still abounds. There are references to Deuteronomy, etc.
How can it be this difficult for people to accept that clothing has always been fluid throughput history with the exception of the last 100 plus years!?

Re: Nyakasula School
It's a very smart uniform. The footless tube-socks (leg-warmers) look practical: allows a more basic sock underneath, without wearing out the fancy part too fast, and makes a nod towards the more traditional look.
(It does look as though they have at least the option to wear quite substantial shorts underneath.)
(I think the narrator may be incorrect in suggesting that it is the only school in Africa to wear the kilt as uniform: I am sure there is at least one Scottish-heritage college in South Africa.)

Great uniform, they all look good in it. Though they are at pains to tell you it's not a skirt. Whatever, guys ...
Hardly any full-length views of the teachers. I wonder what they were wearing. Hopefully kilts - any other sort of skirt seems wildly unlikely - but I bet it was trousers for all the men.

Keep on skirting,

I think we know how important that difference is to some people is, don't we?skirtyscot wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 10:13 am Though they are at pains to tell you it's not a skirt. Whatever, guys ...
How long do you think you'd survive after telling a few bevvied members of the Tartan Army that they really had on skirts like their Mammies wore?
Five minutes for them to comprehend you and nano-seconds after that would be my best guess.
In the context of the clip, those boys are no more wearing skirts than if they had on pink tutus and spangly tights.
I think you know me well enough to know that it is neither mocking or discouraging to say that the likelihood of this happening is not great.
We can only get out there, be visible and proud to spread our message.
See you both in January.
Steve.

In your previous post, you stated this was from 2011. Did you mean 2021 then?Uncle Al wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 8:47 pmThis clip is from March 2021~ Ever seen Boys wearing Skirts (Kilts)? Welcome to Nyakasura School where they do!

Color me confused then. But not important. Ran in a grey purple rain kilt this AM. Was wonderful.
