Christmas greeting 2021

Post by miloshlavka »

Good evening to all!

Image

I wish a merry Christmas to all participants of skirtcafe.org and to all their families, friends etc. I wish first of all the health and, on the picture mentioned, the ability to compassion.

Miloš Hlávka, Nový Knín, CZ

P.S.

Machine translations of the poem in my greeting (with little manual corrections):

Christmas 2021

Christmas ahead again,
And yet the pain bares it's teeth
And somebody spreads misery everywhere
– Caused by the fear of the unknown, perhaps.

Quite a few people – covered with gashes –
want vainly warm quilts.
Family with a kid on the run
Can’t go neither back neither forth.

Tough guys are guarding this place.
Santa Claus won’t bring presents more.
He froze to death in the drenched forest
on the Belarusian border.

Comment to the poem and translations: Neither Santa Claus, nor Дед Мороз (Ded Moroz - Grandfather Frost) nor Weihnachtsmann, nor Babbo Natale, but Ježíšek (Little Jesus) "brings Christmas presents" in Bohemia, and so the mention of the "family on the run" is better connected with the conclusion in the Czech original then in translations. Because according the Matthew's Gospel was the Holy Family also on the run.

And the Czech original, of course:

Vánoce 2021

Vánoce zase před náma,
a přesto bolest zuby cení
a kdekdo šíří utrpení
– snad vinou strachu z neznáma.

Nejeden člověk – samej šrám
– marně si přeje teplou deku.
Rodina s děckem na útěku
nemůže už sem ani tam.

Hlídaj tu drsný maníci.
Ježíšek dárky nepřinese.
Umrznul v promáčenym lese
na běloruský hranici.
Everyone should be honest and prudent: to keep promises and, on principle, never to promise anything to anyone.
Sorry for my English. I try not to make spelling mistakes, but for this reason my writing is very slow.

In case of boredom during the Christmas period, keep your brains active with the 2021 Christmas Quiz.  As usual there is a theme running through the questions -- and as usual, I'm not going to tell you what it is.
There is no such thing as a normal person, only someone you don't know very well yet.

PF 2022 (Re: Christmas greeting 2021)

Post by miloshlavka »

I wish happy New Year to all participants of skirtcafe.org (and unregistered skirt wearers and other people, which stray to this site), their families and friends.

Image

I also wish the happy new Year in advance to those, who are using calendar different from the Gregorian one:

14th January 2022 - New Year according to Julian calendar (still used for example by the Russian Orthodox Church)
1st February 2022 - Vietnamese / Chinese New Year - Tết Nguyên Đán,
21th March - Nouruz - Persian (zoroastric or bahá'istic) New yar
30th June 2022 - 1. muharram - Islamic New year 1444 from the Hegira
11th September 2022 - New Year 2015 according to Ethiopian calendar
26th September 2022 - New Year 5783 (Rosh Hashanah - רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה) according to Hebrew calendar

The verse used in my PF is taken from song "Homo homini lupus est" by Boris Grebenschikov (Борис Гребенщиков https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Grebenshchikov )

This song is accessible for example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLrCjSLaSck or here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-OvebdG-ac (there are some minor changes in comparison with the text bellow in this record, but meaning is the same).

Machine translations (with a little manual corrections) of the text of this song:

(en)
Homo Homini Lupus Est

Hey, longhair! Where are you going in this blizzard?
Hey, longhair! Where are you going in this blizzard?
Leave your burden here
Nothing will happen to her in the snow

I also liked to read books
I read all night, in one sitting
Who reads a lot - he eats less
And then it will tear down the tiles
And no longer drive to the roost

Look, longhair!
There are fewer people here than there are walls
If something happens, CNN will not save you
And there is no one else on the streets
Who would be waiting for a change

Hey, longhair! Come on, kiss the cross!
The fatherland loves so much that it is just an incest
And above the entrance it says:
"Homo Homini Lupus Est"

(de)
Homo Homini Lupus Est

Hey, Gelehrte! Wo bist du in so einem Schneesturm?
Hey, Gelehrte! Wo bist du in so einem Schneesturm?
Lass deine Last hier.

Wer viel liest, isst weniger

Guck mal!

"Homo Homini Lupus Est"

Verses

"...And there is no one else on the streets
Who would be waiting for a change..."

("...И на улицах больше нет никого
Кто бы ждал перемен...")

are an allusion to Victor Tsoi's (Виктор Цой; 1962-06-21 - 1990-08-15) song "Хочу перемен" ("I want changes" - ) from 1987. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-d53x7OgfI - videorecord from the last concert - 1990-06-24 before Tsoi's tragical death)

And the Russian original:
Homo Homini Lupus Est

"Homo Homini Lupus Est"

My pre-Christmas embarrassing myself (Re: Christmas greeting 2021)

Post by miloshlavka »

There - https://youtu.be/WwXVV1zQY2c - is a record of my pre-Christmas embarrassing myself after the worship of Prague Unitarian Fellowship (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unitarianism , see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norbert_%C4%8Capek) on 19th December 2021. I wore this - viewtopic.php?p=220911#p220911 - festive skirt during my performing. All songs and poems in the recording are my work (with texts mostly on biblical themes, sometimes in a slightly provocative adaptations). If I stole some part of the melody or text by mistake, I apologize to their authors.

Listening is only possible at your own risk - if it causes someone to have a stroke, I will not pay for his / her funeral. :-)

Not bad in the slightest! I couldn't understand the lyrics, but the cadence and phraseology were nonetheless familiar, and music is said to be the Universal Language. Nicely done based on what I've heard so far!

I hope I will write rough translation of some songs, if I will have a time (today I don't any more, it's 21:26 o'clock here). But I promise nothing. Because everyone should be honest and prudent... see bellow. :D

Text of the first song from my pre-Christmas embarrassing myself (Re: Christmas greeting 2021)

Post by miloshlavka »

It follows a translation of the text of the first song from the video linked above (viewtopic.php?p=232429#p232429) - it's the machine translation with my manual corrections - sorry for my (and machine's) horrible English. (Written according to the story from Old Testament Book Joshua, but with "a little" different end...)

The Fool from Jericho

Jericho, it had strong (defensive) wall,
they are afraid to go further the Israeli people.
They are afraid also to bypass this city.,
and yet so much wanted to go on.
How do you skate out of all this?
Everywhere a lot of doubts sounded.
And Joshua furrowed his brow for a while,
but then he said, "Guys, this needs calm.

Prepare the trumpets, gentlemen, do not worry any,
add drums to it, let's have fun.
When we play, their walls will fall
and we'll kill - by the hundred thunders - them all."

The bandleader's already picking up new people.
he's already teaching them to play trumpets,
let it have a flair, let it have an order;
music is just a beautiful faith.
Just let make it right.
Whoever hears this, let them stare,
let's make it clear that we're not a Peeping Tom.,
it must be visible we're champions.

Just no being bashful, let music with proper passion
as the lava spills out onto the Jericho plain.
When we play, let these walls fall
and then - well, you know- let become that, what becomes.

D-Day has come, it's getting light,
no one knows what's going to happen.
In Jericho, meanwhile, the divine calm,
only a moo here and there sounds from the sty.
The band has already tuned in.
It starts playing gradually on the plain,
a moment with stage fright – like a sickly –
but then it starts to sound powerful.

And the music is pounding against the walls like the waves crashing,
the old fortress is crumbling, there are more and more holes.
From this music joy shines, warms every soul,
any anger disappears like snow in the spring, leaving nothing.

Joshua yells "guys, grab your guns,
now we can beat the crap out of it.,
destroy everything and then move on.
Come on, guys, what's wrong with you?! Get 'em!“
But no one wants to listen.
All around shake a leg exaltly,
moreover people on the other side
began to dance without fear.

Without falsehood in all beauty sound tones fluffy,
through the ruins of the walls people flow here and there…
Now, in addition, the band from the other side is added.
Even Joshua can see the big party.

And so somewhere in the corner just sighs
and he began to write with a quill into the Bible
the story as he would like to see it.
Honorary title "fool from Jericho",
no one can contradict him it.
It's too late to change it.
But here the joy does not cease.
That's how it's supposed to be. And what to yearn more?

Let be angry only the madmen who trust only in guns
and humanity at any time is not a burden.
Where good music sounds, let the barriers fall
and people get at least a little closer together.

The Czech original (maybe for better translators):

Trouba vod Jericha

Jericho, to silný hradby mělo,
bál se dál jít izraelskej lid.
Bál se i to město vobejít,
a přitom se tolik dál jít chtělo.
Jak jen z toho všeho vybruslit?
Všude hodně pochybností znělo.
I Jozue chvíli vraštil čelo,
ale pak řek: „Lidi, to chce klid.

Připravte trouby, páni, nemějte starost žádnou,
přidejte bubny k tomu, ať si užijem.
Až zazní naše hraní, ty jejich hradby padnou
a my je u sta hromů všechny pobijem.

Už kapelník nový lidi sbírá
už je učí na trumpety hrát,
ať to má šmrnc, ať to má i řád;
muzika je prostě krásná víra.
Zkrátka ať je to tak akorát.
Kdo to bude slyšet, ten ať zírá,
ať je jasný to, že nejsme šmíra,
že sme mistři, to musí bejt znát.

Jen žádný upejpání, ať hudba s vášní řádnou
jak láva vyvalí se na jerišskou pláň.
Až zazní naše hraní, ať tyhle hradby padnou
a potom – no to ví se – staň se, co se staň.

Přišel den D, už se rozednívá,
nikdo neví, co se bude dít.
V Jerichu je zatím božskej klid,
jen bučení tu a tam zní z chlíva.

No tak, chlapi, co je s váma?! Na ně!“
Nikdo ale nechce poslouchat.
Všichni kolem křepčej rozjásaně,
navíc lidi i na druhý straně
beze strachu začli tancovat.
Bez falše ve vší kráse zněj tóny načechraný,
skrz trosky hradeb lidi prouděj sem a tam…
Teď navíc přidává se kapela z druhý strany.
Ten velkej mejdan vidí i Jozue sám.

A tak někde v koutě jenom vzdychá
a do Bible začal brkem psát
příběh tak, jak viděl by ho rád.
Čestnej titul „trouba vod Jericha“
nemůže mu nikdo vodpárat.
Na to už je pozdě honit bycha.
Tady ale radost neutichá.
Tak to má bejt a co víc si přát?

Vztek ať maj už jen blázni, co věřej leda v kvéry
a lidskost v žádný době není na vobtíž.
Kde dobrá hudba zazní, ať padaj bariéry
a lidi maj zas k sobě aspoň kousek blíž.

- - -
Translation of the next song could be here maybe sometimes next time. But I promise nothing.

Good night!
Miloš

Complete text of my poem in my greeting:

Na seně leží Ježíšek.
Zrození, krása, klid.
A tohle všechno teď a tady.
Idylka přímo z jesliček...
Kdo by to ale do ní řek,
že by snad mohla mít
taky ňáký vady?

Možná to zazní nesměle.
Všim si, kdo přišel blíž:
to dítě zírá vyděšeně.
Jak se má tvářit vesele?
Kouká se z jeslí v kostele
a vidí velkej kříž
na protější stěně.

English translation

Baby Jesus is lying in the hay.
Birth, beauty, peace.
And all this is here and now.
Idyllic right out of the creche...
Who would say that to it?,
that it might have
any defects too?

It might sound shy.
Who came closer, notice:
the kid's staring scared.
How to look cheerful?
Watching from the creche in the church
he sees a big cross
on the opposite wall.

Machine German translation / Maschinelle deutsche Übersetzung ohne Gewähr

Jesus liegt im Heu.
Geburt, Schönheit, Frieden.
Und das alles hier und jetzt.
Idyllisch direkt aus der Krippe...
Wer würde ihr das sagen?,
dass sie haben könnte
irgendwelche Mängel auch?

Es mag schüchtern klingen.
Beachten Sie, wer näher kam:
der Junge starrt verängstigt.
Wie sieht man fröhlich aus?
Beobachten von der Krippe in der Kirche
und er sieht ein großes Kreuz
an der gegenüberliegenden Wand.

Machine Ukrainian translation /

Russian translation /

Italian translation / Traduzione italiano:

Gesù giace nel fieno.
Nascita, bellezza, pace.
E tutto questo qui e ora.
Idilliaco proprio fuori dalla mangiatoia...
Chi glielo direbbe,
che potrebbe avere
anche qualche difetto?

Potrebbe suonare timido.
Ha notato, chi si è avvicinato:
il ragazzo sta fissando spaventato.
Come guardare allegro?
Guardando dalla mangiatoia nella chiesa
lui vede una grande croce
sulla parete opposta.

For translations of Easter wishes into languages that I do not know (that is, for the vast majority of them), I used an internet dictionary glosbe.com (more precisely: I did so already in previous years, so now I'm already describing from previous wishes), partly I used (mainly for checking) the Yandex translator (translate.yandex.com -English interface, translate.yandex.ru -Russian.

My greeting in better resolution (together with my older ones) is here: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BLhR/ziH1Qk8Cm - there is also xcf file editable in GIMP (so that it is possible to use parts of my greeting for Your own one - using CC BY 4.0 license).

Thank you for the language lesson, and Greetings of the Season.

A few years ago I had the pleasure of singing the Czech Christmas lullaby "Hajej, nynej, Ježišku" in Prague with a choir I belonged to at the time. I am sure that our pronunciation was a little wayward!

Thanks.
I'm a little jealous of the weather - it's freezing out here. The morning was around -10°C (14°F). Even during the day, the temperature did not rise above Celsius zero (32°F). (I prefer the summer.)
It is possible that your climate would be too dry for me. But flowers on Your photo are beautiful even in Your semi-desert.
BTW the foto used in my Christmas greeting has been taken last year on the Velké náměstí = Great Square in Písek (translation of the city name: The Sand - it has been founded in 13th century near gold-bearing sands). https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Cate ... %C3%ADsek)

Do You remember, where You sang? In which church (or other building or in the open air)?
