Corona Virus
Re: Corona Virus
Geez - What have you been smoking Faldaguy
WHAT does this have to do with Corona Virus
One of the few other people I'm aware of, that is best suited for a Balloon Festival is Nancy Pelosi.
(Full of Hot Air.) I haven't seen this kind of "Dis-information" in a long time. I enjoyed the suggestion
that President Obama would have been better suited(more useful) to sit in the back of a manure spreader.

It is apparent that you disagree with the points made by Faldaguy, but posting facts to support your disagreement would carry far more weight than ridicule and personal comments.

Re: Corona Virus
This is a fundamental problem with the way that things are taught in the USA. The response to anything that even smacks of "socialism" immediately gets a knee-jerk reaction -- even when that reaction is demonstrably wrong.
Folks in the USA -- from birth -- are indoctrinated to be the "rugged individualist" and to be "self-sufficient", and the fact that strong healthy societies are stronger than the sum of their parts never enters into the equation. Thus, social issues tend to be given short shrift. It's sad and unnecessary, of course, but worse it's entirely counterproductive to fostering a healthy and strong society where everybody looks out not just for himself (as in the dog-eat-dog world) but also for those around them. In short, it's a ruddy mess, but it serves the ruling class well which is why it persists.

OK Pelmut - Am I not allowed to voice(write) an opinion
FACTS
At 70 years of age, I'm tired of being criticized for having an opinion.
You don't have to agree with it nor be sarcastic with your "response".
We've had 4 years of Obama and I'm glad that's over. Now, we're currently in a second edition of the same garbage.
We, in America, still have "Freedom of Speech".
YOU will not stop me from voicing(writing) an opinion
I DO NOT HAVE TO SHOW "FACTS OR FICTION" to back up my opinions,
just because you don't like my comments.

Re: Corona Virus
Just understand that if your opinions are not based on facts they aren't apt to get much respect. We can still respect you, though.
The lack of respect for our nation's leaders is not good for our country. Disagreeing intelligently rather than name-calling is much more apt to lead to useful changes.

Re: Corona Virus
We didn't have "four years of Obama" we had eight more years of Cheney/Dubya. Obama did precisely nothing whilst in office other than further enrich the ruling class. As far as the comment on Biden goes, that's accurate: he has never been the friend of the working class.

Re: Corona Virus
Of course you can give your opinion, but an opinion is worth much more if there are facts to support it.
I cannot agree or disagree with it if I don't know what facts you are basing it on.You don't have to agree with it

Re: Corona Virus
faldaguy, I didn't even read beyond the first two lines of your very extended missive. I didn't want to waste an hour reading it, understanding it, working it out whether I wanted to spend unknown hours agreeing/refuting and, cherry picking on bits of it, it appeared to be written from an American viewpoint. Goodness knows how many hours it took you to type it. So, nah, I just couldn't be bothered. Socialism tends to be associated with state ownership but it isn't necessary for that to be so. It can be wider than that. Obviously your understanding is different from mine.
UA, you're showing your Republican leanings again which I find distasteful, disrespectful and insulting. I would like you to remove the two photos about Obama and Biden. They are unbecoming, nothing to do with Coronavirus and in distinctly bad taste.

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.
Re: Corona Virus
Dennis, I respect your view point but I will not remove the pictorial posts about
a former and current President. I fully respect The Office Of The President. It is
the former, and current, occupants of that office that I don't respect.
All politicians are fodder for wise-cracking jokes. ( Some of them actually are jokes. )
I agree that this vein of comments have nothing to do with the Corona Virus.
They were totally uncalled for as they don't help in cleaning up the Corona Virus mess.
I specifically stated that earlier.
Too many tangents have taken off in/from this thread. None of which help anyone
except to "Stir The Pot", inciting disagreements and providing F.U.D.
I do hope someone will steer this thread back on topic.
After being awake for 8 hours, having only 4 hours of sleep before that,
I'm going back to bed.

Re: Corona Virus
Uncle Al,
You could have posted a well thought out response, stating your (presumably) oppsung view, with supporting facts.
You didn’t. You posted incorrect (8, not 4) information, and two pictures that added nothing to the debate.
I’m disappointed. I had hoped you might respond like the intelligent adult I’m sure you are. You didn’t.
Ah well.

Re: Corona Virus
My understanding of socialism is, for example:
Tractor Supply is a privately funded, for profit enterprise. It is therefore, capitalist.
On the other other hand, a farmers co-op, owned by farmers, operated by farmers, with the collective bargaining power of those farmers would by definition be "socialist".
An interesting tidbit, I've had a few conversations with right leaning people in my life. Many of them have an issue with federal programs (such as universal healthcare). I had an interesting exchange with a libertarian on twitter a few years back where he conceded he wouldn't have much of an issue if individual states were to enact their own universal healthcare. It seems the issue is with the vast net of federal oversight, many don't seem to take an issue with state (e.g. Virginia/Tennessee/Maryland/etc) ran healthcare systems, and additionally, those systems would be more able to stand up to constitutional scrutiny (see the 10th amendment).
Health benefits for federal employees? It seems that's just employer sponsored health insurance.
Health benefits for congressmen and the president? That's aristocracy. Revoke it! Let them all pay their own way.

Re: Corona Virus
Oh, and on those congresspeople, I want to see them have to suffer through 16 hours at the E.R. and be on the same medical waiting list as the rest of us!
No more special treatment for these leaches! They're ELECTED "leaders" [0] NOT ROYALTY!
[0] "Leaders" in quotation. When I call them "leaders" out lout I feel I have to rinse my mouth with mouthwash. *spit*
I swear Washington D.C. makes the Mafia look virtuous by comparison!
You'll note I'm not separating Democrats and Republicans... as far as I'm concerned, they're all sewer rats. In fact, far be it for me to degrade sewer rats in such a manner.
I apologize to the sewer rats...
In fact, I think when I vote, that's what I'll write in... "SEWER RAT".
I think they'd do a better job.
Personally, to hell with having another American revolution... I think it's about time for another "French Revolution". I think it's time to bring back the guillotine!

Re: Corona Virus
Indeed. It would help if people actually used the correct definition of socialism. Not by any stretch of the imagination could the common paying of defence be considered socialism. That's diluting the meaning of the word so much as to be meaningless. The distinction between socialism and democratic-socialism is also an important one to understand.moonshadow wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 10:48 am Socialism:
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
Also, many people miss the distinction between state owned and state run. We have plenty of state-owned business, but biggest effect is that the shareholder meetings are essentially a meeting between the Board of the company and a minister. And the minister has the same influence on the running of the company as shareholders have generally (which is a lot, don't get me wrong, but there are strict limits).
I think people have many reasonable objections to state-run companies. So for example, if a US government official could literally tell some company how to run their business because it's owned by the state, that's bad. State-run is what you commonly see in third-world countries when the government is literally actually running the business like a personal fiefdom.
We don't have any state-run businesses here.
