Re: Happy 40th Birthday Moonshadow!!
Thanks all!
Here's what my sister got for me on my birthday...
https://youtu.be/E-wZ8ifon4M
The gift makes me want to reassemble a record collection. I was talking to Jenn this morning about the fun we had when we first got together... roaming the countryside in little flea markets along the map, searching out little deals on albums.
I probably had at least a thousand or so LP's, 45's, and 78's combined at one time, but sold them when we moved to Damascus as I got tired of lugging them from place to place.
Had I known we would have purchased a house so soon, I would have kept the collection. I regret the decision now.
It looks as though this player has a speed potentiometer... boy that would have been useful on those 78's as the playback speed varied somewhat over the decades. I had several disc that I suspected my old player was playing too fast...
Anyway, could be a nice hobby as I start my 5th decade on this planet, especially seeing as how I'm about skirted out for now.. (really don't need anymore)

Happy Birthday Moon.
You should have a lot of fun with the record player. Vinyl is coming back so you will be right on the cutting edge.

I've got a 1970 pressing of Leopold Stowkowski and the Royal Philharmonic playing that, and that right up until today remains my go-to favourite performance. I mean, What's not to love? It's got power, bombast, glory, cannon-fire, and the one I have finishes off with the sound of church-bells pealing away until the final fade-out. What a welcome change from the milquetoast versions we hear today with are so abridged we can't even call 'em Bowlderdised. I used to put that on every Independence Day after the Boston Pops would finish off their 5-minute version and Diana and I would just soak it in in all its glory (on a stereo system that could almost get the artillery-fire right).
You're going to have fun with that. And I enjoyed Dick's play on "cutting edge" -- well done.

My parents had a collection of 78's of Elvis, Tommy Steel and loads of the 50's greats and sold them. I do so regret that and wish I had more experience and wisdom to have stopped them. I listened to them a lot but then I don't suppose I was even a teenager at the time.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Enjoy, Moon. You've got a lot of 'em coming your way. You're a whole 5 years younger than my youngest offspring! Looking into the eyes of our first great-granddaughter I realise that I am more than 78 years older than her!!!

Happy Birthday indeed! Thanks for being with us here; and out "there" in the world at your precious young age ---we old guys got it easy, but you are the ones we really need telling folks to get out of the 'conformity trap' and into self-actualization in a real way...and you are a great example...may you have many many more years to enjoy and convey the 'good news'! Feliz cumpleaños

Re: Happy 40th Birthday Moonshadow!!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes all!
It's currently a quarter after 1am (local time) and my birthday is officially over. Next up, New Years Day and finally the start of a new year are just around the corner.
Here's to another great year!
