Out and About -- In the World at Large

Alas here Covid has driven a coach and horses through all the choirs I know of. I sang regularly in our local church choir and also with the Diocesan Cathedral choir. Neither is now permitted to meet or perform and I miss them terribly. A secular choir for which I croaked tenor has no forseeable venue performances on the cards and have not met since March.

One good thing....our Parish church streams a Communion service each Sunday on its webcam, which affords viewers a grandstand view of the sanctuary only, celebrant and readers, which is lovely. They also borrow tracks from our Cathedral choir recorded CDs which are appropriate and lend some musical solemnity to the transmitted services.

Lockdowns permit nothing else for the moment.

I play in a brass band, and we have not met for rehearsal since March, just after we won the Scottish Regional Championship in section 4. We were due to travel last weekend to Chelthenham to compete in the National Finals. These were cancelled, and it was announced last week that the Regional contests next March are also cancelled. We may get to compete next September in the National Finals ...

On Monday evenings, a dozen band members meet via Zoom and on Wednesday evenings I participate in a Spanish conversation group. The longer restrictions continue, the harder it becomes to find interesting topics of conversation!

And today, further restrictions were announced in Scotland from Friday for 16 days, coninciding with our two-week holiday! Who knows what we will get to do.

Today, I had an unexpected interaction with 3 people at home.

After having bought what I needed to a grocery store, I was thinking to have a calm and chill evening (but I forgot one detail) where I would prepare relax all I'll need for tomorrow (have to move to the office). Chill does not rime with uncomfortable slip, I thus put it off before to put on my skirt.
Here's the detail I did forgot. I was writing a mail to the apartment's owner while I was eating, and I heard "toc toc". I naturally went to the door and opened it, skirt far from mind. I expected to see my neighbor but not, it was her sister with two other people, one man I already met several times (once today), one woman I didn't seen before. No reaction from the sister and the man when they did see me skirted, but the woman had a short shocking moment (which made me remind that I was wearing a skirt). I seen her looking at my skirt and then I seen the void in her face for one or two seconds, after what she was back (*). We discussed 10-15 minutes and nobody did say anything about my skirt. But knowing the reason of their presence that's a bit logical, eventually they could have speaked about it before or after but not in the middle (short story: due to an arrangement from previous owners of the apartments, radiators in mine are connected to neighbor's radiator's network. Now, valves are closed and they logically don't work anymore)

After they left my home, it taked me some 10-15 minutes to realize, beyond the fact I did welcome people at home in skirt, that I wasn't wearing any underwear when they entered. Lucky that I hadn't any "oops" moment


(*) I know there is a better formulation for the "I seen the void in her face" but I don't have time to search for it, sorry. I should have went to the bed a few minutes ago and have still some things to prepare.

Are we supposed to post pics? I’m not good about taking selfie’s. Nonetheless, took a nice evening stroll on the W&OD trail here in Northern Virginia, sporting a green linen miniskirt. I’m still new to this style, and pay discreet attention to people’s’ reactions. Nary a one that I could see. And, a nice walk in a miniskirt on a beautiful fall afternoon was a good way to wrap up the day.

To show a face - or a headless horseman (Halloween is just around the corner)
Suitably sizing the image for posting (others have this mastered - myself not so much *** (my camera gear overwhelms the full picture) always an issue.

About selfie's - play around - helpful if you have a self timer - a tripod or extension stick device - and as always don't forget asking someone to take the shot for/of you.
If your camera (or phone) can do video - consider doing the scene in the video mode and freeze frame your best side shot.

A lot would have to do with (day) lighting what is paired with the skirt - leg wear - footwear and head gear.
Colors loud splashy contrasting maybe an undoing or complimentary.
The weather may come into play - are you dressed for it ?
AND the casual walk jog stroll with head erect paying attention as you meet those people reactions.
Looking for those snickers - hand over mouth - did I just see what I just saw or that nod of the head with
perhaps a thumbs up sanction of the outfit.
The age of the folks you meet on your walk about may play a factor.
That sudden quietness while passing or when you look over your shoulder seeing a burst of snickers laughs.

Oh what the hey just step out have fun pushing the skirt envelope !!!

Hi Greenboots.

Great that you 'blow your bugle' in a champion brass band. While I adore brass band music I never mnaged to get up to speed on any brass instrument and confine my music to piano and whistle. My traditional group 'Noteworthy' run by a harpist no longer meets, alas. My contribution there was whistles in assorted key signatures. Piano I do for my own entertainment, although that description is getting harder to apply with advancing years.

Starting with providing background cocktail music in a restaurant while still a student, I accompanied pantomimes and variety shows in an Am-Dram Soc. in Hampshire and added a credible choir to their calendar offerings. With the help of a far better pianist than I, we tackled some major choral works with qualified success.

On Feb. 1st 1995 I did a 'Freude am Klavier' or 'Joy at the piano' evening in the town hall of the town I worked in for 8 years in Germany. I found that the smoke density in the auditorium really got to me a lifetime non-smoker, in the second half. That was years before the ban. Nowadays I just 'do' club parties....U3A, Bridge and Book Club and have a first-class Roland portable piano for the purpose, but that's all in the Past now with Covid.

Three of my UK resident progeny have been playing in their respective bands/groups using Zoom and compilation recordings for U-tube. One son is a music techie by trade and does that miracle.

First time "W&OD trail" has been mentioned here! I am also in Northern Virginia, Ashburn area. I don't frequent the W&OD but lots of other hiking trails. I have been skirted full time for almost two years, go everywhere in a skirt. Can't remember the last time I observed a reaction.

A few days ago I was working in my garden wearing my utility gardeners kilt. Two ladies walkd by while I was in the shed. They realy took their time and one did her utmost to see who was in the garden. So we chatted about things in general like how long they were in town and about the town in general. I did notice both studying my outfit, but neither commented. I haven't seen they afterwards eventhough they live only a few houses further and do walk the dog outside their yard.

I have taken this week off work to do some clearance. it's hard to tell the difference when working from home! Anyway, I am dragging a bunch of branches down to the bottom of my land to dry and burn, as is often the case, escorted by one of my cats who likes to see me actually doing something physical! when a family, at least 5 of them enters and starts walking up the drive right next to me (My neighbours let the bottom floor of their property out as holiday lets), a wee girl shouts "Look at the cat!" or something similar then one of then said "Hi!". They didn't seem to pay much attention to the fact that I was wearing a navy blue skater skirt, one of my favourites. Maybe I became a talking point later on!

I have taken this week off work to do some clearance. it's hard to tell the difference when working from home! They didn't seem to pay much attention to the fact that I was wearing a navy blue skater skirt, one of my favourites. Maybe I became a talking point later on!

I suspect the cat still rated more attention into the evening -- clothing as blase as skirts just doesn't rise to the level of interest for most -- and your skirt probably passed as little different than shorts or hiking outfit. But, I suppose you can dream they have vision of boyfriends in skirts!

It has happened to me at home in hot weather.Just keep your cool and keep vertical.

Yesterday visited East Lothian Community Hospital to have a 24hr heart monitor fitted. I wore charcoal gray denim Union Kilt with blue & red check cotton shirt and Robbie Dye [1] jumpe, black fleece lined tights and brown Rieker boots. Nice inconsequential chart with the technician who fitted the device.

Today I cycled back to the hospital to Return the recorder. Almost same outfit except plain black shoes and a Joules green padded gilet (it's very cold today!)

Just enjoying a coffee in Costa before shopping in Tesco and cycling home. As expected, no comments, not even from MOH.

I've worn kilts and skirts for some years, but not enough out and about. Usually I don't get much more than a few smiles from the ladies although once a London busker struck up a tune with 'Donald where's your troosers?'

Today walking on the sea front at Harwich harbour, I had a proper mood booster as a passing young woman commented 'loving the kilt, you look great'. Needless to say the woman and her friend were both in jeans - must wear my kilt more often
