Many in the US do as well.
Of course Trump needs his supporters and as OS1 stands up to be counted as one that's perfectly OK.
Absolutely, and I'm not denying that. However, it's useful to know that slightly more than 1/2 half the population disagrees with the current situation.

Some of my smarter friends are actively talking revolution. I've been trying to talk them down because those have a habit of ending badly.

C'mon Carl, you're ignoring OS1's point! I hate Trump as much as anyone; but, because of that I try -- admittedly, not always successfully -- to disagree without being disagreeable. More to the point, when someone indicates I've hurt their feelings by making it unnecessarily personal or rough, I APOLOGIZE!

Is that really asking too much of you?
Carl said:Some of my smarter friends are actively talking revolution. I've been trying to talk them down because those have a habit of ending badly.

Now, you see Carl, there you go again! Totally ignoring the special talents of your fellow countrymen. While other nations, including such a well-developed, highly educated and erudite country as France, can't figure out Revolutions, I'd say we did pretty well with the one we started in 1775 against what was then one of the world's super-powers.

I'll just bet, if we could do it once, we could do it again.

Oh wait, those same 18th-century, violent revolutionaries institutionalized that process of revolution. Every 4 years we get to completely overturn our government without firing a single shot! It's called a Presidential election when we not only get to choose to keep or replace our current President, but also the whole House of Representatives, 1/3 of the Senate, a number of state Governors and many state legislators and state senators. In many states you also get to vote on judges, mayors, city councilmen and all kinds of other officials you didn't even know were put up for a vote until you looked closely at your ballot.

Wow! Now there's a rare opportunity!

Don't squander it by voting for a 3rd party candidate; no one takes those votes terribly seriously. Even if they did, this is no time to send a message; the stakes are too high for that. Instead, take a stand; vote for either Donald Trump (What we've been getting the last 3 1/2 years.) or Joe Biden (A change. One I feel will be for the better. And Fred, Joe Biden is not a Socialist or even a socialist. Can't you Republicans come up with a new counter-argument to us Democrats that at least is factual?).

Social norms aren't changed by Congress or Parliament; they're changed by a sufficient number of people ignoring the existing ones and publicly practicing new ones.

I've found anyone can be at least a little bit socialist when it benefits them personally. Anyone can also be capitalist for the same reasons.

Meh.... I'm convinced most people don't even know what capitalism and socialism even are...

cap·i·tal·ism
/ˈkapədlˌizəm/
noun
an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.
"an era of free-market capitalism"

so·cial·ism
/ˈsōSHəˌlizəm/
noun
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

Both can basically SUCCEED or FAIL for pretty much the same reasons...

Capitalism fails over about 70% greed and 30% laziness
Socialism fails over about 70% laziness and 30% greed

Both eventually fail because humans are imperfect creatures and basically incapable of long term good virtue.

As I've said before, I really don't care anymore, support whatever you want.

Hey.. wanna hate on Medicare for all, all the while having your medical expenses paid by Medicare?

Whatever helps you sleep at night man... I'm but a meager proletarian.

I can tell you all if you work for a paycheck to make a living, it comes down to two scenarios:

Under capitalism wage earners are the property of the company

Under socialism wage earners are the property of the community

Either way, wage earners are property and not in command of their own selves, body and spirit.

Six some half dozen the other.

I don't see why we argue about this on this website.... who here has access to large amounts of capital anyway? Some are retired, yes, and "you're welcome" for funding your retirement, the rest of us are clearly corporate chattel...

Let's get real here. The system doesn't give a damn about any of us...

Hey?
What has all this vitriol got to do with the price of fish?
I enter the cafe to talk about freedom to wear what I wish and not to listen to USA politics.
Gentlemen, please, may I ask that you consider what you are posting.

Then may I politely ask for the topic to be changed from Questions About The English Language to 'arguments about USA politics', upon which I have no great interest?

That could be a nice idea.
Actually, I skip almost every message in which I see anything related to politics (or some other things I'm not interrested with), to not be bothered by that, and that doesn't matter me if I miss something addressed to me.

R'Amen to that!
...or open another thread for your debate about US politics to be ignored by others. The original topic about the English language was an interesting one.

Theory tested and proven...

Last 3 pages of bullsh!t... I steered clear. I have the audacity to post two definitions and a quick assessment of the modern world through my eyes.... and out come the moderator-wannabes....

Mmmkay... I see how it is.

Carry on gentlemen. I can take a hint...

No need to lock this thread.... I shall bow out so you all can get back to your normally scheduled bickering programming...

Although I could argue with the percentages, I agree with the statement. The best solution would be a mixture of both.
I would also agree that employees of either are in thrall to their employer. Hence the phrase “Wage Slave”

It’s interesting to note that mindless supporters of one system use the other as a form of insult

It's beyond interesting -- it's entirely sad because it means that there can never be a meeting of the minds.

And, yes, the most successful of nations use a cogent blend of the two systems. Those on the fringes almost inevitably fail.

(Sigh)

Dan. You’re STILL not getting it! England is only a part of the U.K. or Britain! England is NOT synonymous with either! Can you not understand this simple fact?

FFS.

Will you PLEASE stop doing that. You just look ignorant when you do so which I’m sure is not the case.

England is not the same as Britain/U.K.

England is not a proxy for the U.K.

Texas is not the same as the USA.

Texas is not a proxy for the USA.
