Women's March Sunday -- What should a man wear?
Women's March Sunday -- What should a man wear?
The local women's march is this Sunday -- others about the country, but not all on the same day this time around. In CR men were encouraged to join the march. There were certainly no dress codes, and most of the women were in pants; my skirt was accompanied by a sign that said: "It is not what you wear" to make a point -- but this is years later, in the US where we are visiting -- will I aid, detract, offend, or.... by wearing a skirt? Suggestions?

It could be misinterpreted but I believe the onus of misinterpretation is on the misinterpreter.

Have a kilt - wear it !
No kilt - then wear a tartan plaid skirt !
Something denim camouflage perhaps at least knee length.
What accessories worn with the skirt will make or break the ice.
Tops Shoes Sox Hats ?
With the above avoid wearing something short sexy demeaning with not an inkle of being appropriate.
You are trying to blend in and not stand out for whatever slings and arrows of outrageous fortune the gals might heap on your (THEIR) parade !

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Maybe google pictures of previous marches in the US to see what the typical attire is?

Hi Faldaguy,
Wear whatever you will be happiest in!
The question is how badly do you wish to attend the march?

Ooh, let me guess ...jeans?
Wear your skirt, Faldaguy, there's no dress code for a march. Knee-length denim will go nicely with all the jeans around you. And be ready for the usual questions.
Keep on skirting,

Be yourself! Wear a kilt, or a skirt of modest length. Those who know you would think it strange if you didn’t

I know, terrible suggestion I’m a herd animal! Trying to escape the flock, not quite there yet.skirtyscot wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 5:30 pmOoh, let me guess ...jeans?

But I’d imagine you would be fine in a skirt at such a gathering. I’d agree with the previous suggestion about keeping it modest and not too flashy - let them draw the attention to themselves.

I am a live and let live sort of chap and if people want to have a march, then by all means.
But I'm just not sure why the 51% of the human population who are female would feel the need to have a march on that basis in a modern western country.

Hola Stu and Cafe community;
WHY, an International Women's Day March? Many reasons, and many of them apply directly to this community of skirt wearing men. Just today the UN released a report showing the very high incidence of inequality, from a survey that covers countries with 80% of the world's population. Even self-reporting 28% believe it is Ok to beat spouses/women; and a huge percentage believe men are superior in politics, leadership, etc. But regardless if you ascribe to any of this, or consider it important I must take issue with your call of this a "modern western country" as a reason not to have a demonstration/gathering/march -- take a look at these signs -- provacative yes, but all too accurate.
The IWD Goals:
challenge gender norms,
empower each other,
celebrate diversity,
break stereotypes,
reject the binary,
mobilize, and
take action.

DEFRAUDS CHARITY,
CAGES THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN,
TWEETS INSULTS ALL DAY,
SOLICITS FOREIGN ELECTION INTERFERENCE... AND PEOPLE STILL SUPPORT HIM.'

Re: Women's March Sunday -- What should a man wear?
Coder, a march such as this is a time to throw off the drab and wear something JUST TO BE NOTICED! There will be loads of others doing just the same thing. If I were going I'd be in a yellow miniskirt, red top, purple trainers and tights and a yellow hat. "All done in the best possible taste" as Kenny Everett would have said.
Faldaguy, point taken but don't let Dan see your post as he may be a fan of the said President, whichever one it is. Not really sure from the description. Nixon????

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: Women's March Sunday -- What should a man wear?
I really don't think the contrast between men's clothing rights and the inequality experienced by women are on a par. Despite the advances made by feminism women are still much more poorly paid and treated in a patronising manner )or worse) by some men. Puts clothing into perspective.
I would be wary of wearing a skirt to an IWD march as it could be misinterpreted. Even if you are obviously not attempting to dress as a woman, some feminists are really angry about the ability of transwomen to be present in what are women-only spaces. I am not taking sides here - just pointing out that these opinions are out there. You could be seen as favouring transwomen by your clothing even if you are not one yourself.
The hostility over this issue is tearing political parties apart and even women who are heroines of the feminist movement like Germaine Greer have been no-platformed. The is not being debated - it is being fought over - and you might unwittingly find yourself caught in the cross-fire.

Re: Women's March Sunday -- What should a man wear?
They are a very, very small percentage of 'feminists' whose false propaganda and aggressive attitudes are shunned by the vast majority. I would quite happily join a group of real feminists (wearing a skirt as I usually do) because I could be confident that I would not come across these particular obnoxious individuals. If they were attending, they would have announced it to the press and rallied their supporters through social media so as to make sure they got the attention they craved.rivegauche wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 7:02 pm ... some feminists are really angry about the ability of transwomen to be present in what are women-only spaces.
There is no such thing as a normal person, only someone you don't know very well yet.
