Suspender skirt

Post by Freedomforall »

The company calls this a suspender skirt. I seem to recall my elementary school teachers wearing something similar. The price is decent. What are your thoughts?

This was called, in my younger days, a jumper. However it was knee length, or slightly
longer, not mid-calf. Many of the school girls, grades 3-8, wore these Jumpers.
Now I know that in the UK a 'Jumper' is what I've known as a 'Sweater' in the U.S.
(See what all that salt water does to word definitions :?: ;) )

I'ld still call this a Midi-Jumper. No, this was not in the Amish catalog. I know this
statement to be true as I lived in Amish country (Northern Indiana) for about 3 years.

Still, it's a good way to take the pressure off the waistline. No belt required :D
(Also helps in hiding your the waistline imperfections ;) )

Thank you Old Salt. I did not see that at first, but you are right. It does resemble Amish clothing. I did a little more research after I found it and discovered the site was Chinese. I seem to have a gift for finding these Chinese clothing sites.

That grey number Uncle Al posted... that's the ticket right there!

The others don't seem full enough... not enough flare.

But that grey one... yes!

If you do a "Google Search" for Jumper Dress, you'll get all kinds of them.
Many pic's to choose from. Even 'Mini-Skirt' types <shudder> as for me, they're
waaaaaaaaaay to short. Remember - the outfit is supported by the shoulders.
If you have to bend over, the material will rise in the rear.

I would/will do all possible to avoid a "Southern Exposure"

When I saw the title I was expecting something more like this:

Language barrier!!

I would definitely go along with "Pinafore dress" for what has been shown. A jumper dress is different again here. It's knitted and looks like a long jumper. I have a few.

That was my mental image before I clicked on the link. I thought "good, a mini skirt with the facility for holding up long socks".

A pinafore, sleeveless tunic, dungaree skirt ........... a strange combination of length and heavy material for cold weather and sleeveless for hot weather.

SkirtsDad -
What you linked to is what we American's call a girdle with garters sewn in.
The garters are to hold up the thigh-high nylon hose. The rest of the garment
is to "hold-in" the tummy bulge ;)

I ordered a denim pinafore dress/skirt on eBay once and wore it indoors.
Sadly, one or other of the shoulder straps continually fell off my shoulders. Intensely annoying. :(
In the end, I donated it to a charity shop.

If I ever bought another pinafore dress, I would try to find one where the shoulder straps were attached to a rear, central panel of fabric which came up near my shoulder blades or possibly one with shoulder straps which crossed over at the back.

The eBay seller of the one which I bought, didn't provide a picture of the back of the dress.

Looks nice, especially the knee-length  these are also called Dungaree dresses. Suspender skirts make me think of the straps one attaches stockings to as in SkirtsDad's picture

I would have called it a "bib dress" because of the bib at the front and the shoulder straps. I don't really like that one as it seems rather shapeless.

I like it except for the giant bow/belt that serves no real purpose that I can see.
Remove that and I would definitely wear it every where. It would make a nice addition to my summer wardrobe.

That's for ornamentation and to further define the wearer's waist.

I find that dresses look better on me with a belt or sash and am not averse to bows and embellishment, so I'd wear either one of those.
