I don't know much about how we "spin" this story here.... it's hard to trust the mainstream media to not have a bias one way or the other, much less internet memes...
Why not keep it simple...?
Look at the U.K.'s and Canada's system (which many here who live in these countries seem to champion...)
Highlight what they do,
Press "control + C"
Come over stateside
Press "control + V"...
Simple.

Re: free maybe not
I swear America just has this issue....
It's like it's a good idea, but since we didn't think of it first... we won't do it here.
How many of us know someone like that in our lives...
Don't be that guy...

I think truck drivers or anyone who drives for a living should think about wearing a skirt. Bus drivers, letter carriers, couriers, UPS and FedX drivers. Driving is a totally different experience without the confines of pants. A skirt could be pulled up for ventilation and air conditioning, "adjustments" are easier, underwear could be more comfortable and dryer.

You are doing everyone a disservice by lumping all these things together, and by calling them free.Fred in Skirts wrote:
My point is single payer healthcare systems as the basis of medical systems are proven to be a better option for the majority of the population. You can have variations on this theme, i.e. supplemental insurance for items not covered in the basic coverage, but the current system in the USA has been hijacked by the insurance companies. The whole point of insurance companies is to make money. Putting them between you and your medical people is insane. They siphon off money that could be used to pay for care, they insert themselves in decisions that should be down to the medical people, and callously play the odds to reduce payments. Yes, some people will pay more in taxes, but very few will be paying a higher total than previously, and most will get better medical care from such a system. Those few that won't get better care, can afford to go private. Please note, a GOP senator or congress critter recently chose to travel to Canada for an operation, as the facility in Ontario has the best record for that operation. He (or his insurance) paid exactly what the Ontario provincial government pays for anyone else to undergo the procedure.
There are many in the USA, who have medical insurance, that avoid going to the doctor because of fear of massive uninsured costs. Something like 25-50 of person bankruptcy cases are driven by medical bills. People are dying because of this.
Frankly, you literally couldn't pay me enough to take a job in the states if it meant I was subject to your system.

Re: free maybe not
Part of the problem partlyscot is branding and spin/fear mongering. Many in the U.S. feel socialism and communism are one and the same. They seem to ignore that a good part of our government system is, in fact, socialist. We have a socialist education system (up to 12th grade). Most of our infrastructure is socialist based (most places in the U.S. have tax funded road systems). Many utilities, while privately owned are under strict government regulation. In Virginia as with most states even our water and sewer services are provided by local governments for a metered fee.
Thay 1969 moon landing we like to pat ourselves on the back for? Tax dollars funded that.
Not to mention our socialist retirement system (social security) and disability program which is also funded by social security, which ironically most recipients seem to support the GOP which would have us going back to a pre-1929 regulatory system (recall how well that worked out....)
Dad hates a Democrat... but he sure as hell don't mind a hand out when it lands in his hand!
We also have a socialized health care system, it's called Medicare and you have to be 65 to be eligible.
Why does our government pander so much to boomers?
Because they vote whereas 1 in 5 millenials do by comparison. It's no wonder our elected officials don't give a damn about anyone under 60.
Here's some interesting info: https://youtu.be/cxOmaQx4BY4

Re: free maybe not
Don't get me wrong. I've all but given up on our elected officials actually doing something.... anything at all really besides fly off at the mouth. The whole thing is just one big circus. We'll never have a good health care system... never ever.
I've set the bar pretty low anymore... hell, I've set it under ground level. Every day I wake up without bombs falling from the sky or some massive economic catastrophe unfolding .... the U.S. government gets a gold star from me.
I think they should lower the age where one can run for public office to... 2.
I feel once someone is old enough to walk... they're probably more qualified than those in the freak show we currently have.
And Dan that goes for Democrats too...

Re: free maybe not
What is don't understand is, in this country it's totally acceptable to have a payroll deduction subtract money for deposit into a private, for PROFIT enterprise on what can be a life or death service (health insurance). What is, in effect a bunch of people (employees) pooling money together so they may have coverage. On the other side we have the elderly that have a health care plan funded by 100% of the work force despite the fact that many in that work force won't live long enough to draw on it.
This is a-okay....
But to have all income earners pay into a system that benefits all citizens is absolutely unacceptable...
It boggles the mind...
I....I just don't understand it. What the hell is wrong with people? By God they have no problem filing for that disability benefit though... or taking those food stamps.
Suddenly the national motto makes sense.... damned sure can't trust the government "of the people" to do anything!
