Just avoid being a court jester - plaids - stripes (horridzontal vertical deranged) - contrasting competing plaids.

WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Hi K Highlander
Well, you asked for and received some advice but you really are doing quite well going by those photographs.
My tip is simple, please yourself and be comfortable with your choices and enjoy.
That will shine through more than the ultimate in coordination or any sartorial perfection.

Re: Bought a skirt, need help with shirts
I have seen the same skirt on the A&F ads locally . I was thinking of getting it.
All three matches look good. My own preference would be the third . I tend to be overly monochromatic. But at the same time the bright yellow shirt would draw attention no matter what you wore it with. Why it is obvious that you are not trying to hide what you are wearing you could slip under the wire a little more if you avoid bright colors.
And if the outfit was less obvious it might help with getting more approval from the other half

That is a nice skirt; viscose/cotton is a good mix and viscose lining should feel great. I like 2-way zips because if needed you can create a split to increase your stride, for climbing stairs or getting into a truck.
All combinations look good to me.

Re: Bought a skirt, need help with shirts
Oldsalt, no decent shoes yet.
Since I retired from work two years ago, I have been very casual, mostly wearing trainers (to use a British term).
The leather shoes I used to wear every day have been gathering dust in the back of my closet.
The trainers work fine with all my solid skirts.
I will need to pull some of those shoes out to see how they look.
I am only interested in mens's shoes.
I have seen the other looks on other forum members, and agree that THEY look great, but not for me.
BTW, we hosted a family party today. My two sons, my two brothers with their families, and my brother in law with his family.
I wore a skirt the whole time. Got comments, initially "Is that a kilt?" "Nope its a skirt" One nephew commented: "that's better for men anatomically". I agreed, smart boy! I am wearing for comfort. Some gentle family ribbing (to be expected in my family).
My wife still objects, still working on her.
She has not seen my new skirt or shirts (I have not worn for her).
She saw the A&F bag the other day, asked what I bought: I replied, "a skirt". She grimaced.
But they are hanging in our closet, not hidden.
Thanks

Re: Bought a skirt, need help with shirts
I’m all for the look you have in all 3 photos. The polo shirt works perfectly tucked in, at least on you. I would wear the skirt, no problem, and the polo shirts work.
The problem with polo shirts is the length, and tucking them in fixes that. I do have one polo shirt that is short and it works great not tucked, but the others I have seem way too long untucked (I prefer not to tuck, having done so for my life).

Re: Bought a skirt, need help with shirts
Working on shoes to go with the skirt and polo shirts.
Here are two options from my current inventory.
I tried the brown shoes with short socks, that did not work.
Opinions? ( I know I will get some )
And as previously stated, I am not considering women's shoes.
Thanks
Ken

Re: Bought a skirt, need help with shirts
You're hemming yourself in a bit with that, but that can be worked around. First off, I'd suggest acquiring a few pair of the very short "no-show" socks that the shoes will typically hide. Very short socks leave a lot of leg exposed, but so then do skirts unless you go for ankle- or floor- length. Darker socks and knee-high ones can be work with longer skirts, and usually lighter almost-to-the-knee socks can be confused enough with Kilt hose to pass. "Anklet" socks can also be made to work well in certain settings. There are options.K_Highlander wrote:And as previously stated, I am not considering women's shoes.

Re: Bought a skirt, need help with shirts
I think both pics look fine. The first is less formal IMHO, so I wouldn't do those sandals with it if you are trying to dress it up. The second is a classic look and would probably work better if you are trying to pass it off for something a little nicer. I wouldn't do the socks like that with any shorter of a skirt though. Maybe that's just me.K_Highlander wrote:Working on shoes to go with the skirt and polo shirts.

Re: Bought a skirt, need help with shirts
My take:
Are you wearing a skirt or a kilt ?
Is the pattern a tartan or plain (solid) color ?
Seasonally what accompanies the skirt or kilt ?
Summer dress to stay cool - Winter dress to stay warm ?
Socks short ankle or no shows with skirt - especially with sports activities -
With a kilt calf high works here - flashes for formal effect -
Footwear - leather brogues - activewear tennies - casual sandals loafers
Are you going to the office the court or the beach ?
So many ways to Mix & Match - however don't be that court jester !
Repeating from my previous post:
Just avoid being a court jester - plaids - stripes (horridzontal vertical deranged) - contrasting competing plaids.
Violate any organized disordered mayhem and the Crown will be displeased - off with your head ! LOL !

Re: Bought a skirt, need help with shirts
I think the sandals look ok
Now remember this is only my opinion. Way too much shoe for a skirt.
Would you wear combat boots with a business suit.
If you had a pair of loafers there would be less shoe.
I used to be a fan of knee socks. Now unless their white I try to avoid them unless its a very short skirt.
The hidden socks that CR mentions may be good but you still have to reduce the quantity of the shoe
