Advice needed

Post by Freedomforall »

I have ventured part-time into a new occupation. I am driving for Uber and Lyft. I enjoy meeting all the tourist and giving advice on the area. It also gives me a chance to wear my skirts and kilts. Most everyone seems to love it, especially women. I have only had four different men comment in a way that just does not feel quite right to me. Ironically, all four of these men said the exact same thing. I should add that none of the four know each other and were all days apart on their rides. So here is how the scenario went each time. The passenger gets in my front seat and I see them glance at me. They then ask in this manner, "So, what ya' wearing over there?" This seems so odd to me as I would never get in a strangers car and ask them this question.
So, folks what are your thoughts on this?

I would put it down to natural curiosity from a person who isn't used to seeing skirted men, nothing offensive. I get more comments with a kilt on than I do with a denim skirt, normaly about the tartan. A few people have asked me why I am in a skirt, only a few questions in a lot of years now and none which I felt offended at.

Sounds like just good humoured small talk to me, common in taxis.
A number of responses come to mind.

Courteous and logical:
"I am driving all day and need to wear something comfortable"

Making out that the skirt is not remarkable:
"all cotton, it is a healthy fabric to wear"

A touch of satire, courteous of course:
"Over here, I am wearing a skirt"

"Over here in this seat, I wear what I like"

"Oh sorry, where is your dog" (for the blind)

Hmmm, dogs, skirts or kilts and more importantly, wet noses. There is a downside to being unbifurcated, thanks to dog's and their concept of being friendly! well unless like me most of your skirts are long.

Hi FFA,
Yes, the way you describe the scenario sounds amiable enough to me too.
There is one other point that springs to my mind.
These guys see themselves as paying for your time. In some minds that conveys a right to certain behaviours that would otherwise be unthinkable.
I worked with the public for a long time and saw some very good and extremely bad examples of that attitude too.

Steve.
