National Cheesesteak Day
https://www.lehighvalleylive.com/entert ... alley.html
Lately the subject of getting a cheesesteak in Philly came up but then fizzled out.
Today my wife's best friend and I visited the second best friend that was in hospital for a hip replacement. The friend wanted to leave early to get a cheesesteak because of the national day. That was reason enough to get cheesesteaks for the whole family at home.
So we went to Palumbo's because that is the best one in the city and enjoyed it for a late lunch. And I love their onion rings. I never heard of onion rings before I came to the USA but I'm catching up on that.
It was easy for us to do our patriotic duty today.

Hi Beachlion
It sounds good in an unhealthy way which makes it all the more attractive.
Only the Americans could devote a National Day to a fancy cheeseburger though.
It is only a matter of time and you will get cheesesteak greeting cards and themed gifts.
There may even be a Father Cheesesteak who delivers them to all the Phillie folks too.
Steve.

Be careful with your wording in matters like this. Your application for an American visa could be in danger if you ever want to visit the USA.STEVIE wrote:...... Only the Americans could devote a National Day to a fancy cheeseburger though. ......

Do not call them burgers as they are not ground meat they are thinly sliced steak. And if you ever said that they are cheeseburgers in Philly they would probably tar and feather you and run you out of town on a rail.STEVIE wrote:It sounds good in an unhealthy way which makes it all the more attractive.

Re: National Cheesesteak Day
I have never heard of a cheesesteak, what is it, surely not just cheese on a steak? cheese is good, steak is good, cheeseburgers are good so I don't see why not, is there such a thing in the U.S. as real, proper, good cheese? when I think of American cheese I imagine processed cheese, cheese in tubes, packets of grated cheese, I don't think of real, proper, tasty stuff such as that supplied by decent cheesemongers!

Here you are, from a Dutchman to a Scotsman about an American recipe. Here is where the SkirtCafe shines.

B&B
I had a version in Yorkshire some years ago.
The steak was rib eye, the cheese mature cheddar. The bun was from a local baker made from wholemeal flour.
The accompanying chips were roasted not fried. All washed down with the black nectar.
Reet fine!

Re: National Cheesesteak Day
When former Massachusetts Senator John Kerry ran for President in 2004, he embarrassed himself in Philadelphia by asking if he could have Swiss cheese on a cheesesteak. Any damn fool knows a cheesesteak has no actual cheese on it...it has Velveeta. I’m sure that cost him the election.

Re: National Cheesesteak Day
This just gets better. A Cheese Steak does not contain "cheese".
It is sandwich which is honoured in a really national holiday.
Ordering it wrongly can cost you your job.
I really regret terming it a "fancy cheeseburger" now.
Please don't set Pennywise on me.

It’s an American thing. You wouldn’t understand. Just shrug and don’t think too hard about it.STEVIE wrote:This just gets better. A Cheese Steak does not contain "cheese".
