Musical Wind Chimes

Post by weeladdie18 »

I have considering making musical wind chimes which play 12 Bar Blues Riffs....1,4,5,and flat 7 as a riff......
Do any musicians know if these randomly played notes would produce acceptable music ?

The idea is to cut each individual pipe length to a tuned note.

Wind chimes produce a single note per pipe not a chord progression like in a riff.
You would end up with a dissidence between 4 and 5 (a second)

If you tuned your chimes to 1, 3, 5, and flat 7th, you could produce a single chord called a seventh.

Hollow Brass curtain poles suspended each on adjacent strings set in a wooden harp-like frame in a windy part of the garden. Eight in all, tuned so they make an octave. Wind-driven motion sets them chiming like English church bells, except there's no set sequence. The sound is very pleasing, nonetheless.

interesting the rods cylinders blocks can be either solid or hollow*** (the best resonance) -
The material can be metal plastic glass and even wood or bamboo (bamboo ??? - yes hollow bamboo).
When I was in Hawaii in the 70s we had bamboo chimes at our entry door -
There was not so much a melody of shrill timbre but a more dull knocking on wood - ah er bamboo -
The wind catcher; the device at the end of the string strung down the center of assembly and the
clapper the device in the middle that strikes the chimes - varying the length of the chime rods and
the striking point alters the tune and resonance.
You don't get as much musical action from the heavy weighted chimes as you would with the feather lightweight ones.
Never the less the melodies dull or shrill are wind driven and enjoyable.
All the Best in your construction project !
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !
