YES - point well taken !
Square inch or centimeter the cost of the material in women's clothing is astronomical and for what it covers - What ! It covers something - anything at all !
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

I've had people in a passing bus look through the car window and see my skirt rode up my legs a little (never felt the need for so much moisturizer for my legs if I don't have tights on) As for the escalator, I feel conscious of people looking up my skirt, and of low seats or sitting opposite someone on public transport without crossing my legs or keeping knees together. Feel a little uneasy uncrossing my legs when I need to get up in case of exposure, but I guess it's something women just deal with. I find myself looking for a stall to pee and always sitting down when nature calls.
Wondering how to coordinate my skirts and tops, and also tights

Unless you're wearing a very short skirt this shouldn't be a problem. You can verify this by noticing (discretely) how little extra women show in the same situation. With a skirt ending anywhere the knee, you'll be showing much less than if you were wearing running shorts.

Yeah, when you're sitting across from someone it's definitely best to keep your knees together or cross your legs. I find crossing my legs to be more reliable, but you will get a few more people looking at your legs and thinking you're sitting like a woman (which will confuse them). But don't let that get to you. Instead, take credit for expanding their universe. If you want even more attention, try dangling a shoe.

It's normal to tug at your hem a bit when sitting down or standing up. Particularly with short skirts, women do it all the time. Keep a discrete eye out and you'll see what I mean. If you're weren't watching, you probably wouldn't have noticed at all.

And to guard against total exposure meltdown, it's best to wear dark underwear.

I usually stand at a urinal, even though it's a bit nervy when there's a line of guys waiting behind.

With short pencil skirts, though, pulling up the front enough pulls up the back too much, and then I use a stall. Same if I need to pull up my tights or whatever.
JoePublic wrote:Wondering how to coordinate my skirts and tops, and also tights
Avoid items normally intended for different occasions. Like, no formal tops with grunge skirts, or the reverse, or whatever.

Avoid mixing patterns, such as two different plaids or half polka dots and half plaid.

Don't let almost-matching colors touch, because that throws off the eye. For example, don't wear a skirt and top of almost the same color.

Think of the shirt, skirt, legs, and shoes as four color areas, then alternate two or three colors among them. Today, for example, I'm wearing a black sweater, olive skirt, black tights, and olive shoes.

When you see a woman's outfit you like copy it, substituting a men's top the same fabric or color. Or start with a men's outfit and substitute a similar skirt.

But ultimately, there are no rules but to wear what's pleasing to the eye.

Your outfit looks fine to me. However, unless that's a dress shirt (which it doesn't seem to be) I'd wear the bottom out rather then tucked in, to hide the just below around the waist.

Thanks for the advice, Caultron! I only went with those nude tights as they matched the nude underwear I wore, but generally I do wear black briefs. As for the top, I should have lifted my skirt, pulled the top down to flatten it out rather than stuff it into the skirt waistband... I guess it's all a learing curve. In regular jeans, one stuffs a shirt in without paying much attention.

Bought a couple of skirts, one is royal blue which I will save for spring (probably with black or navy tights), the other a standard grey pencil skirt. I will contrast tops and bottoms more. I found Mark a good example, though I would struggle in such high shoes :D As for the hem, I will give it a slight tug now and then, and I have observed women doing the same. Even to pull my skirt down a touch after crossing my legs as I have seen girls doing. I admire your look as well, especially the olive skirt

Thanks, glad I could help out. There are definitely no hard-and-fast rules but some outfits do look better than others.

The one with the olive shoes and everything else black, right?

When I was in the Army I hated olive green but now I think of it as a guy color and have fun with it. And black goes with anything. I'm still working on bumbling along in those shoes, though.

During my first few years I wore utility kilts almost exclusively and never with polo shirts. The kilts just seemed so edgy and the polo shirts so bland. Nowadays, though, I do think polos work pretty well with pencil skirts and a-lines.

Exceptions include where a belt intervenes, or a pattern on one item or the other, or a third piece like a vest, is sufficient to establish different zones or otherwise distract the eye from the confusing overlap.

I am very fond of coordinating everything in one color family, including socks or stockings, for example the whole range from dark teal to light turqoise, or a range of pinks in the same hue, and I've learned that your rule above is very true and can even apply when the colors are identical and the top and bottom are incongruent in style. When colours are identical then the impression should be as if it were a single thing, a dress, unless zoned by one of the means above. Women can achieve zoning just because of the strength of their features. Men need a little more to my eye.

I came across this > https://blog.ewm.co.uk/index.php/a-guid ... d-for-men/ earlier today. It's a link to a mans guide to basic coordination and colour matching. Ignore the pants - imagine skirts! :) It explains the colour families and zones, that the guys have mentioned.

... never realized there were so many rules about how to wear skirts!
JoePublic wrote:As for the escalator, I feel conscious of people looking up my skirt,
I had the same thought a couple of years ago while I was walking in a greenhouse garden in Indiana. I walked upstairs on a catwalk, you could see the ground floor through the floor, which also stood to reason anyone on the ground floor could look up and see up my skirt!

...and to make matters more interesting there was a big group of kids on what I assume was a field trip on the ground floor!

No matter, I'm sure there has been a few women wearing skirts on that catwalk. I'm sure those women, like me were wearing underwear. If they weren't worried about it, why should I be? Regardless, nobody bothered me, or tapped me on the shoulder and escorted me to the exit, despite being in Pence's home state. In fact, as I passed by the teachers, they were actually quite friendly.

At any rate, nobody, men or women ought to be trying to look up your skirt... that's pervy.
I find myself looking for a stall to pee and always sitting down when nature calls.
I hear that's better for the prostate anyway. Though I normally just use the urinal. Guys usually leave me be, there might be a snicker once in a while. But generally men leave men alone to pee.... it's part of the "bro code". I do believe though I may disturb many in my presence, a man in the south who's brave enough to stand at a mens room urinal and pee seems to gain a bit of respect.

Pretty good use of the colour wheels to explain it all.

Interesting. Considering how much I enjoy experimenting with color combinations, I'll certainly study this and take notes. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, that's the one! I love that skirt, Caultron, but those shoes would kill me  If the skirt was a little longer it would be perfect for me! I got a nice navy skirt today, 27" length pencil so it's perfect for going out. Going to buy some blouses and tops so I can get a nice colour block contrast, closer to pay day
The length of the skirt helps, I still pull it down a little, but there's a good 3 inches of material to cover my knees so less chance of anyone looking up my skirt. Dark briefs (when possible!) plus dark tights help as well. Also got a standard grey pencil skirt, nothing special but something I could wear with a white or black top, and perhaps grey tights. Keeping on topic, I guess this is something I never would have agonized over as a guy in regular drab

I think that olive skirt is about 19 or 20 inches long, but it's made with a fabric called "ponte" that provides a lot of both stretch and structure. 27 inches would be mid-calf on me.

As to the shoes, they're not painful or anything like that; just tall and wobbly. I never buy shoes that hurt, even 4-inch heels.

Before I wore skirts I never worried about how I crossed my legs and when sitting, accidentally exposing my color for underwear.

Thanks! Not sure I would be a good example though. I am generally mono colors and don't particularly like stripes or prints. I find that I can wear different shade of grays and blues together. Wearing a different shade of reds and greens together is a big NO!!!

As far as crossing one's legs and since I wear more pencil skirts (tighter fit around knees) I find it more comfortable with just keeping the knees together. I usually sit with knees at a slight angle if the chair is short. I might cross my feet if hanging though. I can't cross my legs like women do (knee over knee), I am more of an ankle over knee type guy. And that will definitely not work wearing a skirt.

Here are some recent pictures of me sitting. Notice I always (almost) have a hand tucking the skirt top between the tops of my legs.

Mark, there is no problem with how you are sitting in those skirts, the high stools/chairs/table are very respectable with your feet on the ground and even the one with feet up is fine. I have avoided stools in coffee shops when wearing a mini. The skirts look tight enough to prevent unintentional knee drift.
