What do you think of Givenchy fall winter 2012 mens' skirts?

It's not too easy to see the skirts in those pictures. Black skirts are hard to picture anyway but with a dark background...
Based on what little I can make out the first one and last one look OK, but I'd not be interested in the one with a couple of lines of stars on it*. Unfortunately the lengths are a bit too long or significantly too short to my eye; somehow that below-the-knee-but-nowhere-near-ankle-length tends to look a bit middle aged and frumpy to me. It can work well with long boots but is not particularly to my taste.
Have fun,
Ian.
* Of course with a Givenchy label on them the price of one skirt will almost certainly be higher than my clothing budget for the next couple of years... so my real interest is limited to curiosity.

Re: what do you think about Givenchy men's Skirts
Pictures are very dark so it is difficult to see the style properly. At least one pic shows a skirt over trousers - (not a good look in my opinion) - not sure about the rest of the pics though (leggings? tights?) And if picture 4 is a skirt it must be awfully short!
Anyway here is the Bing translation of the text:-
Usually, on my fashion blog, I publish my own photographs of fashion shows. For the first time I'll make an exception. First, because that I have not been invited to the parade of Givenchy, I have therefore not able to take photo, then because the collection includes a few skirts for men and you know if you are a regular reader of this blog, I advocate for the skirt for men.
Here, it is more black skirts reaching above the knee. More generally, the man Givenchy autumn collection winter 2012 "gives Riccardo Tisci the opportunity to probe the American dream." "The American flag and the male myth of the Minotaur mingle in a graphic sportswear and sharp suits", says press release. One thus finds the evocation of the Star-Spangled on many T-shirts, sweat and jackets banner. Other clothing, coats, shirts, t-shirts and sweatshirts are decorated with star coated enamel, crystals and Jet crystals.

Image 4 is conventional trousers. The impression of a short skirt is down to lighting artifacts.
I agree on the skirt-over-trousers look -- I think it's juvenile. Pick one or the other; don't do both at the same time. Too, don't get me going on "leggings"; that's just too '80s for my taste.

Tired of pictures of black clothes, so I did not bother to look closely.
Since I am in full agreement with Ian's comments, I have not missed much.

Skirt are on photos 1, 2 and 5, on the other photos, models are wearing trousers
I think it is a good point that such a famous luxury old brand has men's skirt in its collection

I tend to agree and the fact that the skirts are not outrageously over the top and silly is a huge improvement over many of the mens skirts we've seen shown on the catwalks over the years.AntoineParis wrote:I think it is a good point that such a famous luxury old brand has men's skirt in its collection

I like the first one, but what's up with that hideous hog ring in his nose. I don't think that sort of thing does anything for the seriousness of the moment. That ring says, to me anyway, "freak show".

Yes, I agree, the facial feature is horrible. I'm not impressed by the "skirts" (poor visual depictions) but at least Givenchy is making skirts for men. So in theory that's a good thing.BobM wrote:I like the first one, but what's up with that hideous hog ring in his nose. One commenter's remark on the Givenchy site is sad if true, "2 years ago I saw lots of men in skirts in Paris, but now that's very rare."
When I heard about skirting, I jumped in with both feet!
Re: what do you think about Givenchy men's Skirts
I find the nose metal things disgusting, and I don't like skirts over trousers, but of course it is a good thing that Givenchy shows skirts for men.

There ARE viable alternatives to trousers.

Re: what do you think about Givenchy men's Skirts
I agree. The skirts for the most part look normal, the models do not. I guess they figure that if they're going to make them look like they don't "comply" to the whole "only-women-wear-skirts" thing that they also need to make them look like they don't comply with other normal standards of male appearance (i.e. the freaky nosering thing). But it's a start I suppose.GerdG wrote:I find the nose metal things disgusting, and I don't like skirts over trousers, but of course it is a good thing that Givenchy shows skirts for men.
The next step is to put normal guys on the runway wearing normal skirts, looking like the average joe going to work, school, or the ball game. None of this freak-show crap. How long will that take?
And this also applies to all of the other runway shows with men-in-skirts over the years. They all tend to be freak shows too. Which in my opinion only sets the whole cause back. People see the skirts on the guys and think for the most part that it looks ok and they can accept it (in theory anyway), but then they see the guys themselves and the weird styles and that tends to marginalize them. Just make them look "normal", do it over and over again, and eventually it will become normal.
Re: what do you think about Givenchy men's Skirts
It looks like the skirts over trousers fashion will be the new thing for women this fall.
Been seing it in ready to wear in the stores but have yet to see a women actually wearing it.
