Pepper Spray

Post by Skirt82 »

Who has been sprayed in the face with pepper spray of their own volition or otherwise?
I have once and may have it done again; had it video recorded.

That's certainly 'off topic' & one I wouldn't like discussed here.

Well, a friend had me spray him to see what it was like exactly, not trying to pull a "Jackass" stunt or anything.
I decided to do it for the same reasons. I was not pressured or dared. It is an experience and a half though, nothing like it.
Plus, I figured it was a subject that was not in here, so I decided to bring it up.
I did not think that it would be too sensitive a subject/topic to start here.

Well, once a philosopher and twice a pervert I suppose, but that's not something I'd particularly look forward to.

True, that isn't a topic that's come up before, and one that left the moderation team curious enough to let it stand to see what showed up. However, it is worth remembering that this is an international forum with an international audience, and some societies do take matters like this with a dim view.

As an individual contributor, I was curious as to why anybody would voluntarily subject themselves to such a thing (having gotten Tabasco Sauce in my eyes on occasion, I know the power of pepper); however, as a moderator, I am also aware of sensibilities elsewhere, and, whilst once in a great while, weaponry comes up (and pepper-spray, make no bones about it, is a weapon) it's generally frowned upon due to the afforementioned sensibilities.
I did not think that it would be too sensitive a subject/topic to start here.

Quite. I'd heard the old story of people making a chilli and then 'getting it on' with their partner, only for things to get heated up rather too literally.
I'd dismissed it as urban legend until a married couple I'm friends with told me they had done it.

Closest Ive had was using pure peppermint essential oil as a car air freshener, but without realising I'd got some on my fingers, then rubbing an itchy eye.
It's a good job I only did it to one eye as I couldnt see out of it for 10 mins and I was doing 70mph down the motorway at the time....

Not personally, and no desire to get it or any of the other "less lethal defense tool" options tried on me.

My brother-in-law did have it done to him when he was at the NH police academy.
It is apparently in the curriculum, so they know what to expect if they get it, if not how to appreciate its effects if they have to use it.

Does that mean they all got shot as well?

I think the aftercare from such a test shot would be prohibitively expensive and cause an unacceptably high wash out rate.

Seriously though, off the target range, firearms use is a projection of deadly force. It has its own set of protocols, and teams of armchair experts eager to second guess any use made "in anger" at every level.

One cop I know said that pepper spray is also pretty good on popcorn.

Now that's funny.

I can vouch, though, for the notion that hot pepper is good on popcorn. I routinely use a mix of garlic salt and a concoction called "Texas Gunpowder" that's powdered jalapeno -- good stuff!

I agree with Kirb and also have no clue why anyone would pepper spray themselves in the face with that, or any other problematic spray. :faint:

I don't know about pepper spray but----some of our police have volunteered to be tasered and they go down in a (supported on both sides) screaming heap, literally. I suppose it is a good deterrent to troublemakers seeing it on television and saves such people from the more drastic potion of being shot

Strange subject... Even the ones that like Pepper Spray for some reason, like "on popcorn" don't favor spraying themselves in the face with it. Someone does tho, sort of self punishment I'd think tho.....Ask enough people you get lots of reasons..O well!! :faint:

Getting sprayed with pepper spray is a requirement in some police acadamies. This was noted to me in a basic firearms safety course by one of our local policemen. Personally, I am not interested in participating in such an experiment. Hot pepper juice on my contact lenses is bad enough. That's why I wear gloves when chopping hot peppers. OUCH! Dance around the room....

So, Carl, that's why I'm reluctant to chop hot peppers. owy, owy, owy....
