Spring/Summer 2013 mens fashion by Rick Owens

Not my cup of tea these styles but everything is welcome. The more publicity the better.
But, my oh my, those uncomfortable seventees clogs.............

When I see the expressions on the faces of male models I always think of the song "Smile". The one that goes "smile though your heart is breaking" etc.

In theory, I agree, Jan, but there's nothing there that a woman could not wear (except perhaps the awful footwear).

Footwear and those awful legwarmers aside, the designs aren't all bad. Cost ?

Hmmm... A bit of a curates egg by my reckoning. Most of the looks are hideous (like the shoes and some of the jewelry) and many of the skirts look like they are really trousers with a flap of cloth hanging down in front. However, there are a couple of OK garments there.

I rather liked this dress:

I have to say that the sleeve length does not really work to my eyes. I guess the sleeves could easily be rolled up for a more masculine look (and a more practical length for me) or they could be shortened fairly easily. Of course, whether I could get Carole to accept it might be a whole different kettle of fish.

I would also be interested to see some more pictures of this:

Is it a skirt or a dress? As a skirt I'd rather like that for a change from solid colours without being too "patterny".

Sadly, I suspect that neither would be affordable in my budget or available in my (unfashionable) size.

Have fun,

Ian.

The dress at 4' 52" is good. Probably the best of the collection. Don't particularly like the legwarmers and shoes, but it would go nicely with a pair of black ankle boots and black opaque hose/knee-highs.

My opinion too. I can't see one item that I would wear with a smile. Sorry :|

I like the hoody and skirt combo. It's a nice balance and something I'd wear a lot. I love the pattern, too, on that hoody and skirt! Love the bright yet neutral colors(tan, gray and white). :D

No doubt some of this is pretty extreme. I can't imagine where I'd wear most of it, except for techno/avant-garde night clubs, art shows, and society receptions. And I certainly don't move in those circles.

Then again, haute couture fashions aren't generally designed for everyday wear, and designers need to do something different than last year's ladies' off-the-rack. But at least Owens is keeping the men-in-skirts concept in the public eye.

I wonder how these designs are selling. Anybody know where to check that? I tried googling, "Rick Owens men skirt sales" but didn't get anything that looked like sales figures.
