I have the right to be different." I am not part of the vast bleating herd; not a sheep to be lead to the shearing-shed or the slaughter; not interested in the artificial constraints that have been placed on men for the past 150 years, nor my half-century; and I like the comfort and style that only skirted designs, in nice fabrics, can provide.

I'll not be tossing my trousers any time soon for they come in handy. But for the good days, I want my skirts!
The above resonates with me. Carole and I have been invited to dinner at the house a friend shares with his new partner and I have been instructed to wear a kilt "because they have never seen you in a kilt". Well they're not going to on Saturday either! I will decide what I want to wear and when I want to wear it and if that does not sit well with others that's just too bad.

Have fun,

Ian.

Do they know that you also wear non-kilt skirts? If not, give them a wee surprise and wear one!

I'm not sure of the veracity of the portion of the above article when it comes to listing a college student who wore the same pair of jeans -- unwashed -- for 15 months; even if they didn't dissolve, I'll bet he was single for at least the last 14.5 months of that "experiment".
When Mrs SS and I were on holiday in the USA a good few years ago, one day we turned the radio on and heard, to our astonishment, a long report about women's rights in India. Just as we were beginning to think American radio is not all as bland as we had supposed, the report ended and an English voice told us we had found the World Service. And our world view was restored!

One of the denim skirts I bought on Ebay had not been washed before being posted to me and it was the most minging garment I have smelt in a long time - probably since before smoking was banned in pubs. I hate to think what the smell was. No doubt woollens would hold stench just as effectively, but the 15 months unwashed story brought the experience rushing back to me!

By the way, my kilt/skirt wearing has nothing to do with my sexual preference

The thought of 15 months without proper laundry service almost brought my lunch rushing back -- and I'm not known as the cleanest beast on the planet!

Speaking of the innate cleanliness of the human species, the "history of computing in NASA" web pages have a few classic comments on the matter regarding why it was deemed best to hermetically seal the on-board computers before flying them. We are not as pristine as we'd like to think we are. However, 15 months is really beyond the pale.

Well... that makes at least 3 of us here at the cafe! :D Like Jan, my kilt and skirt wearing has nothing to do with my sexual preference. I've never been into crossdressing, i.e., trying to pass as female. Yeah, I like to "push the envelope" a little but I'm still just a guy who likes to wear kilts and skirts...

As to Steve's original question... I started coming here when it was Tom's Cafe. I started with a Utilikilt and then by searching for men wearing skirts, I found Tom's Cafe and Nigel's site.

I really wish I could've been there for the "Stirling" event. It's a long way from San Jose CA to Scotland, though!

Yes, it is a long way to come for a meet, KM. I've been on holiday to SF last year and it took 11 hrs on the plane - from Paris (no direct flights from Edinburgh, Scotland)

For those skirt wearing gays, I applaud you for just being yourselves.  I would not expect any sexual preference to influence skirt-wearing in any way just as I would hope no-one tries to influence my choice of occasional skirt-wearing. I am not gay myself, just like the comfort of a skirt at times.

I was at a Gay Pride parade whilst in SF and it was incredible the numbers of people in support of equality for you guys - after all that is all we all want isn't it?. And I hope the trend increases to all States following NY's lead. :D

For myself, I do it partially as a statement that I do not conform to the typical highschool standards, and that I am an independent human, and also because I like the comfort and the look. I am somewhat picky in what I wear, for example I don't like wearing anything shorter than maybe 4" above the knee. But still, mainly comfort and looks.
