I had to look at it twice. At first glance I thought I was seeing a middle aged man wearing a pair of blue denim shorts and the only odd thing I saw was his legs were green. :D :D Which of course would look odd if that was a pair of shorts and not the great looking kilt it is. That whole outfit is grrrrreat!! I love the hat too. :D :D
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Out & About twice so far in 2011! The first time was New Years at a Party with my wife then at a different party with my sons and daughter. I'll make a (THIRD?!?!?) ,<-- strike that - a FOURTH attempt at posting photos: Image

THANKS: to all who helped me learn how to download and upload pictures. I owe ALL of you a beer in your neighborhood bar/tavern/pub. WHEN I resume my world travels I'll make sure I get to your town and hoist a few beers with you as long as we are both kilted/skirted. THANKS - AGAIN, JC...aka Jayce

Jim,

Here's a FAQ about how to post images from flickr on other sites:

http://www.flickr.com/help/photos/#2265887

Essentially, when you're viewing the photo page, you want to click "Share This", then choose "Grab the HTML/BBCode". When the HTML code pops up, click the radio button for BBCode. Copy the resultant code and paste it into your post without clicking the "Img" button above the message box on the posting page.

I've changed your img tags to the normal links so people can go to your flickr page and view them by clicking the links in the quoted part of my response.

Jayce,

Kilted_John has provided the answer, but hopefully a few pictures will help... (Note: these instructions are specific to Flickr, anyone using an alternative picture hosting service can work out how to manage that one for themselves :) )

First find the picture you want to use and click on it. You should now be looking at a page like this:

Image
Image in photostream by milfmog, on Flickr

Click on "Share this" (circled above) and a menu will open like this:

Image
Share this options by milfmog, on Flickr

Select "Grab the HTML/BBCode" (circled above) and the menu will change to this:

Image
Select code type and thumbnail size by milfmog, on Flickr

Select "BBCode" (circled above).

Select the size of thumbnail you require from the drop down menu (arrowed above). I have used the default medium size for these images.

Click on the box full of geek speak (just above the image size selector) to highlight all the text in it (if necessary you can click in the box then press Ctrl and A together to highlight all of the text).

Now press the Ctrl and C keys together. This will copy all the gibberish to your clipboard.

Go to your post and click where you want the image to appear, then press the Ctrl and V keys together to paste the code into your post, the copied code will look like this (without the blue box):

Code: Select all

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/27333144@N04/4911315554/][img]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4098/4911315554_b6f99930e5.jpg[/img][/url]
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/27333144@N04/4911315554/]Rainbow (6)[/url] by [url=http://www.flickr.com/people/27333144@N04/]milfmog[/url], on Flickr
If you now preview your post you will see the image; clicking on the image will take the reader to the page you were on when you selected "Share this" and the reader can select other sizes to view if they are available and navigate any public images in your photostream.

Below your picture you will see the name of the file and your Flickr name. Clicking these take the viewer to the image or your Flickr profile respectively. The code is structured as below:

 The section between the first url code marker and /url code marker produces the picture as a clickable link.

 The section between the second url code marker and /url code marker produces the title of the file as a clickable link to the same Flickr screen as clicking on the picture. This is useful if you do not want to add the picture within the post (to keep page loads fast for readers) but want people to be able to see your picture if they want to.

 The section between the third url code marker and /url code marker produces your Flickr name as a clickable link to your Flickr profile page.

If you do not want any one or two of these options, simply delete the appropriate parts of the BBCode as detailed above. (Remember to remove the square brackets containing the URL markers for the section you delete.) I usually use just the first part of the code and delete sections two and three. I left all three codes in for this post so that you would see the most complete option.

NOTE: If you have marked the image as "Restricted" or "Private" it will be displayed in your post, but nobody will be able to access it within Flickr unless they log in to establish their age (Restricted pictures) and that that are authorised to view it (Private pictures).

Give it a whirl and see how you get on.

Have fun,

Ian.

Edited to clarify text slightly and add the note about Restricted and Private images. - Ian.

Thank you John.
Yes I think it looks nice and simple -- no frills!
But most important, it's a pleasure to wear (I have since made 3 others on similar lines, cutting off the lower trouser legs and using the cloth for the extra wrap across the front and a box-pleat at the back).
Summer or sub-tropical use, mainly.
After posting the pic, I tried to add a note to say sorry for hi-jacking someone else's thread, but it appears we are not allowed to send two messages in quick succession. How odd!

That's top-notch casual look Martin -- well done!

Sapphire and I just returned from a local author's tour following up on his recent book chronicling the construction of the Wachusett Reservoir that innundated parts of four Massachusetts towns in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The project was an audacious one; it required the manual construction of a gravity dam that remains to this day the largest one ever built without heavy mechanisation and created the largest reservoir of its time in the New World and possibly on the planet. The author in question has been speaking recently to standing-room-only crowds and his book is unobtanium due to the local interest.

To this, I decided to go "full throttle": blue taffeta floor-length skirt, blue silk brocade waistcoat, yellow dress shirt, a wide black velvet belt, and a slightly irridescent blue necktie. A heavy petticoat underneath the skirt provided warmth (it's just about freezing today) and fullness for the skirt. Sapphire indicated that she likes the look. Nobody else commented.

Almost not worth writing about I think after reading the above post, but I did wear my below-the-knee pleated navy blue skirt to The Perks coffee house and then to the health club, and then to meet a friend of mine at Spangles (KS version of McDonald's), and no one commented that I heard at least. I was going to wear it outside today, but the weather was a little cold, and I thought well, maybe I have to wear pants sometimes. I'll wear pants tonight to work at least, woe worth the day (that I can't wear at least a kilt).

Martin, that skirt/kilt is really fine looking.

To comment on Carl's attire yesterday: SIMPLY GORGEOUS!! I had been out running errands and when I got home, my jaw just dropped.

Unfortunately for me, I had lots of chores to complete before we left and I didn't have time to change, so I went frumpy/schlumpy next to this gorgeous man.

The lecture was great. It was held at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens, a truly magificent place. After the lecture, we toured the new additions to the facility including the Limonia: a lovely greenhouse with many species of lemons. The building complex is marvelous, in a U shape. The education center, shop and cafe comprise the "foot" of the U. The Limonia and performace space, one arm of the U and the Orangerie (magnificent large display greenhouse and the working greenhouse are the other arm. In the outdoor center of the U they built a winter garden with a fancy reflecting pool and two large turtle fountains. Naturally, there are plenty ourdoor spaces and theme gardens to explore when the weather is nice.

It was a lovely experience overall, a great lecture, in a great space with a beautiful man.

I'm out and about again, skirted and at work. Dark red dress shirt, matching necktie, black waistcoat, an upper-calf-length black/grey/subdued-purple ont-the-bias plaid skirt, and black opaque legwear.

The key, I've found, is to make the look so unassailable that nobody even tries; if the look is coherent and good-looking, nobody questions it.

I'm curious how many members here live in a small town? A town where everybody knows everybody. I then wonder how at ease many of you would be, being the newcomer to town, with wearing your skirt to the local hardware store. Let's also further stipulate that your small town is in Wyoming like mine, where people are very much traditionalists, rugged and critical of any newcomers. Wyoming is the least populated state in the US and for good reason. Those who live here do so because the hunting, fishing and off-roading is great. They tolerate the natural elements which most sane people avoid, because they love their sport and their "solitude" from the main stream society.

I pay through the nose for a home that affords me a great deal of privacy but is far from seclusion as I still am surrounded by neighbors. The main reason I am willing to pay half my income for this place is because I can wear what I want outdoors without being closely scrutinized by nosey neighbors.

Now that I have set the stage, I wear skirts and dresses all summer long around the house. When I first moved here I would avoid areas where I could be clearly seen from the street or a neighbor's window but over the past year I have begun to not care so much and am much more forthright. I love a stretch fabric loose cut mini skirt to work in the yard and while doing maintenance because it has zero binding and allows ample breeze, but I am careful not to be seen in those. For some reason, perhaps because I feel an above knee skirt is harder to identify as a skirt, I feel more at ease wearing these even in direct view of anyone except my neighbor who lives next door and below my deck. Heck, they can sit outside and look UP my skirts!

This is a banner year for me. My wife as agreed to let me buy an Elkomando Hiking Kilt to wear when I go hiking and prospecting. I plan to “test the waters" in town, maybe Home Depot, for reactions. I'm excited to be able to buy something that is arguably for a man but still have the comfort of the women's skirts I so carefully conceal at home, and to wear it away from home.

If I lived in a city I would wear whatever my wife did not object to me wearing without concern. People in cities are so wrapped up in their own affairs, see so many much more disgusting things (not saying that what we do is disgusting, calm down) that I'm not surprised that most of you don't get noticed. It is different here for me. I will be brave and do my part to further the revolution, but really I just wanna wear what I like, when and where I like without everybody talking behind my back and being labeled a freak.

My new wife and two teenage kids are from Central America and are very traditional when it comes to what a man is supposed to be. It has taken time, many explanations, and a lot of defending my actions to have my feminine attire accepted in my own home. Many of my favorite skirts and dresses will likely never be worn in front of my wife or the kids. I am wearing her down though; she agreed that a hiking kilt looks ok even though she had to laugh a bit at the pleats.

It’s a bit of a tough road for me as far as skirts go. I envy so many of you that can be so open with your clothing choices. I think I can “in your face” a kilt and take the laughs and jokes that I know will come from co-workers because they may be morons, but they can understand reason, and I have good reasons to wear a kilt… but NOT a dress. I’d likely lose my job and any associations I have. Yea, really.
I just registered her a couple days ago in hope of learning more about others that have the same passion for comfort and the desire for equal fashion rights as women as I do. It has been enlightening.

Having been on a metropolitan police force for 10 years and having been a biker for several years, (yes I rode with sanctioned clubs) I have learned to be a bit rough around the edges, therefore I ask that if I say anything objectionable in my posts, it is due to a lack of refinement and is not intended. I was chastised for a comment on my very first post on my very first day. I’d say I’m off to one hell of a start.

Thanks to all who lend their support by sharing their stories and ideas.
I can't think of anything to put here that won't offend SOMEONE.
